Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
Gil Scott-Heron wrote a powerful poem in 1970, and recorded it into a song – ‘The Revolution Will Not Be Televised’, during the Black Power Movement. Link - shorturl.at/begHU Some references used will send us down wonderful rabbit holes. I went down a few myself, and got curious about how a modern-day version would…
We quote Steve Jobs a lot on how we can connect the dots looking backward. To pick and choose parts we remember well to craft a narrative that we call our story, in a way that makes sense. Retrospective parenting is what I call consoling the kid who got hurt years ago. To make sense of the hurt that hasn't healed.…
ahhh quickly sketching out ideas makes me think of how 'real' that idea can become. if the sketch is too perfect to begin with, then that idea is generally not special enough. it is the ideas which start out murky that have the most potential, because they tend to be in a realm where they do not exist yet.
There are no holy ideas in Academia. We should always strive to get better, always. I believe in the ideas of improving the human condition with the help of rationalism and science. Understanding the world and finding approximations of the truth that serve as practical solutions to the problems of our time, is the age…
I looked at her, her head on my shoulders, hand in hand. No dear reader, we aren’t a couple. I was lucky, but not lucky enough. We operate in the greys. There’s a space between friendship and love — an unspoken pact between a man and a women. A line in sand that you cannot cross. All it takes is one wave. Beautiful…
It starts with a door opening. Then you just see a man's feet trudging through the snow on a horrible dark night. He turns over the ignition and the car's headlamp seems to appear in the darkness. We watch the car make its way down the road. It's the only car on this awful kind of deep snow-covered road. And then a…
ahhhhhhhhhhhh i really enjoy going back to old lectures from creators and designers who i consider mentors. when time becomes slow, it is be best opportunity to listen and revise notes. because with time our memory of past content fades...
“This is what I’m thinking about where to stay on our vacation.” I’m talking to my husband. The decision about where we stay will affect both of us. It’s important that he be in on this conversation. Even when my decisions don’t affect others directly, I talk to myself. Saying what I’m thinking clarifies my options…
Nada justifica.
I recently published my first blog post - Learning To Write. Simply put, my plan for learning how to write is to force words out onto paper and see what sticks. Fine, in theory. But how do I put this plan into practice? How do I ensure that in 3 weeks, or 3 months, or 3 years I am still writing? This is an experiment…
Today is my last day studying, and I can't seem to find any motivation at all. After a month of studying, doing 20 past exams, revising and revising, and feeling like there's always more to cover, today—on the most important day when I should be pushing through the last mile—I feel done, Im done (not done that I'm…
I'm always surprised when I find out that I'm not who I thought I am. When I was younger, I thought of myself as a go-getter. Someone who pursued. A manic worker. But I find satisfaction now in not pursuing every possibility. In being selective and leaving a lot of room and time to digest and think rather than just…
People has so many topics outside of work. You gotta have life outside work or feel energetic & interested to go outside to enjoy life. Now I’m feeling like it a bit - I like going outdoors and explore Or just listen to conversations That’s how you get to like know more perspectives and more things It’s pretty…
I think that´s the feedback I've gathered over the last 4 months or so. It's been mostly this year that I've been completely independent, working on my own, that I've seen it. I've had some hits in the past. Some of like people around call "the 15 mins of fame". And had some peaks in certain occasions. But nothing…
Managing money is hard for a couple of reasons. Firstly, most of us don't understand what money is and how it works. We don't really understand why pieces of paper have value - many of us still think it's backed by gold. We also don't understand why a random piece of metal aka gold is so precious. We don't understand…
This line from any James Bond movie seems to be a part of the franchise and has sustained over the last six decades. In fact, it's safe to say it's a part of Mr. Bond's identity. Therefore when I was recently gifted a bottle of vermouth, I wanted to experiment making martinis and I went down my own rabbit hole of why…
Yesterday I‘ve finished a first draft of my thesis. Today I spent the day fine-tuning it. Once again I noticed how much more I like the process of bringing something from 50 to 100 percent, vs. starting from scratch and creating a first version. I am definitely better at perfecting, fine-tuning and finishing. If I…
This is something that came to my mind recently. Mostly because I had to make changes to my usual schedule to better accommodate engagement with other fellow creators and to be available for my client's work. It made me think that routines, as much as they're touted to be the key to success, don't make you a…
My parents video call me everyday. It could sound like I am complaining but that's not it. I like that they do. Most days I do pick up the call regardless of if I am out, at a party or at a friend's place. Usually, the conversation goes as follows- where are you (when I'm out) did you eat? what's happening? what else…
(original: 2007 Aug 17) fill in the blank with a word or phrase ... Here we go: 1. My favorite childhood toy was ... jacks. 2. My favorite childhood game was ... red rover. 3. The best movie I ever saw as a kid was ... willy wonka & the chocolate factory. 4. I don't do it much but I enjoy ... bowling. 5. If I could…
made coffee at 2am again not because i needed energy just wanted to feel like the main character for five minutes
To optimize means to discard a working hypothesis and replace it with a simpler one.
Phone service, internet, electricity, hot water and all these things that are used to, that we use everyday, the change of not having them from one day to another is drastic. Yesterday, a huge storm approached and I hasn’t stopped since then, it took all of those things away from my house, it was 1 am and in my mind I…
Does anyone else sees the irony with influencers? They are supposed to drive a positive change among their followers and yet we see most of them end up getting influenced by their followers. I don't think most of influencers can truly express themselves on social media. There is always that possibility of backlash…
I waited in the train station restroom. A woman exited the stall, telling me, “There’s no more tissue, but I had some in my purse, so I left a small tissue pack on the dispenser.” That is when I knew I am not as kind and friendly as I thought. Scotland's culture is similar to the United States. We don’t dress…
i took a nap under the premise of "meditation" and as i laid there i thought: "oh yes is this what meditation is? oh yes it is very pleasant. is it like a dumping out of all the thoughts i'm having? not trying to think but just letting it all out so i can have a clear mind? oh yes it is so nice oh yes i like this so…
Easier said than done, right? I know this firsthand because this has been my problem for years—decades, even. You see, I've always loved writing. I started crafting stories and essays at eleven years old. The writing wasn't great, but I loved the process: formulating thoughts and ideas, turning them into stories that…
It's a new month now. And talking with others, the topic has come out. "What are your goals for this month?" Truth be told, I don't have any for now. I came out of May being one of (if not the) best months so far. Even when I don't have goals for this month (yet). I know what I want and don't want to do. One of those…
There are roughly 2 kinds of societies in the world today. The first which puts the society before self and the second which does the opposite. Typically, eastern cultures demonstrate the former and western cultures demonstrate the latter. It's hard to compare the two as they both have their upsides and downsides, but…
What happens when a world imaginary yet real chooses to collapse within itself, annihilation they call out loud but that dystopian is far stretched to be comprehended for physicality to experience. Yet, for a subjective individual withdrawing from an addiction would be a close reference to that “annihilation” wherein…
i've never felt there was a stronger case for being selfish. in a good way. like, for the first time, the demand side of the internet has outpaced the supply side. like it finally makes sense to just... be. and maybe that seems oddly specific, or convenient. a reason to realize what has always been true. or maybe it's…
I don't know yet how this platform works but will slowly see and explore if it fits to what I was looking for.
Today is my birthday. For some reasons I don't like my birthday. Why could that be? As a child, birthdays were magical - filled with excitement, gifts, and cake. Now, as an adult, the shine has worn off. Why? Perhaps it's the contrast between childhood anticipation and adult reality. As grown-ups, we can buy what we…
Shit day - but never forget where you came from & lose sight of where you wanna be. Be like Alvin Tan. Confident, if not anything he at least brings his best out. Don’t have to be shy and negative about yourself - thinking what you say is not going to be correct. Just say you whatever you want to say. At least you’re…
Writing doesn't come naturally to me. Questions like- what's the use case of writing?, there's too much content already floating around!, how will others perceive what I write? etc. etc. have been pulling me back since a very long time now. FRICTION at work, you see. I've greased my thought process with some oil…
Is to apply HARDWORKING THOUGHTS! And to be prepared! You’re good at last minute changes cos you had to. But planning on the goal to success is what’s important right? Having that vision - and combine knowing what and how to adapt based on different circumstances. If you study just one day earlier - you could’ve…
Spoilers ahead! Joy/Jobu, a character I resonated with after a long time. The anguish, lost mind, unheard sobs, hopeless eyes and whatever she was made of. I was feeling nothing like her. I felt it when she said "If Nothing Matters, Then All The Pain And Guilt You Feel For Making Nothing Of Your Life Goes Away." The…
Today was a day with many little frustrations. Nothing worked out the way I hoped for. What frustrated me the most though, was how much this affected my mood negatively. I want to get better at decoupling my mood and view of the world from external factors. Why not just be happy in the moment, no matter what.
Take a new leap of faith Read the book Go to events Go to sports meet new people Travel the world for half a year Talk to people you wanted to talk to Listen to podcast Ask for a raise Don’t escape from the hard things in life by short term dopamines (insta, fb, YouTube, dinner, sleep, etc…) Put your mind in it Put an…
A student made a comment in class about "planting the bomb." His teacher asked what he meant, to which he responded by making fart noises. The teacher reported him to admin, admin called the police, and the police hauled the boy off and detained him for making a bomb threat at school. This is a real story from a…
The first "fact" that I learnt in childhood was "the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Our day lies in these two extremes. The window of observation between these two extremes is underrated. As the sun swim towards the west, it paints the world around us in multiple strokes of extravagance. From the pesky…
I can be very restless and impatient; and sometimes surprise myself with my patience while watching birds. Watching birds going about their chores assiduously pleases me like nothing else. It's fascinating to watch a swallow build its nest drop by drop of mud, a lammergeier soar high with a bone and drop it on a rock…
Sim. Muito…
Tomorrow the New York marathon of 2022 is on. Me and my wife are joining 50 000 other runners in NYC in the starting line. Everywhere you look tonight you’ll find runners preparing for tomorrow. Did I get the right energy? Have I prepared my breakfast right? How much time do I need for my morning routine to make it to…
Human ingenuity and persistence is best seen in engineering. A mere 2 feet separated imagination and death in the hour long flight. Multiple forces are involved, from engineering, flight management to freedom of choice in choosing flight time. We flew in a 1978 Piper Cherokee, i.e a 45 year old plane. She has also…
If my manager read a page of my code contributions in the last month, it would either mean nothing to him or he would draw the wrong conclusions. Adding code doesn't make one a valuable contributor. It just means you're a contributor. The hubris of thinking that managers (or CEO's...😂) can discern anything of value…
