The Irony of Influencers
Does anyone else sees the irony with influencers? They are supposed to drive a positive change among their followers and yet we see most of them end up getting influenced by their followers.
I don't think most of influencers can truly express themselves on social media. There is always that possibility of backlash where a personal opinion might not sit well with followers. The result? The influencer starts censoring themselves or sharing only things that they know their followers will like. The influencer ends up becoming influenced by their own followers.
Of course, there are people who are truly influencers but I have noticed that these are also the people who are highly successful in their personal lives. Also, these are the only people who can drive positive change. Ask yourself, would you take climate change advice from one who is highly successful or one who merely has figured out what followers like. The first one has proved their mettle. The second one is not really a person of their own but a figment of imagination of crowd.
Then there is third category where people choose to ditch conformity and express themselves anyway. These don't have much followers but they would rather choose being authentic instead of increasing follower count.
Have a nice day!
