Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
When we spotted her garden from far away we were theorising on what could be growing. One of her family members spotted us leaf and drain inspectors. They rolled their eyes and made way for Ajita kakima to take charge. The matriarch introduced all the trees like her old friends. There was jamun, mango, banana,…
It was a productive Monday. My apple pencil came and so did the cat food. Went to h-mart to get stuff and ate more leftover curry. Started thinking of ways to improve my workflow on the new iPad. Had a recording itch and tried using garageband. Sleeping late.
Just had an appraisal. My Project Manager predicted I’m just going to be a senior planning engineer in 35 years. That’s crazy, I don’t think I have the time for that. What I realised is no matter how good you be at; your position will only dictate you to be at certain levels. Set clear on your goals; remember:…
i feel energetically a little STUCK do i: - do more yoga - get the package - read - write - eat - watch youtube (this seems almost certainly like a bad idea bc i am so annoyed with booktube people but i am curious about just one little video...) ? i'm hungry. fuck. my body has decided. i guess i'll eat leftover…
I have rejoined the Linking Your Thinking (LYT) cohort. Currently in Workshop 9, I am serving as a mentor, as well as enjoying updates the founder and host, Nick Milo, has created. An exercise from yesterday's first live super session (via Zoom, of course) included "STIRring knowledge" - Space, Time, Importance,…
Most people test what AI can do. Ankur Goyal suggests testing what it should be able to do. Typically, as product developers, we build a feature then write some tests to protect it. When tests fail in the future, you know you've broken something important and need to fix it before pushing any changes. This is true of…
Be very engaged in conversations The way you put your energy and soul into thinking things Will changed your perspective and yourself to the outside world Like how you talk to subcon You gotta be mentally prepared Very very prepared even your face has to be smiley all day else your PM will think you’re angry It’s a…
The harder you try, the farther it goes. I've noticed every time I try to coddle or pet my cat, she runs away. The more I try, the farther she runs. She's a cat. I know. But...when I ignore her, she comes asking for pets. The law of reversed effort says when we chase something or someone, it moves away from us. But…
I am realizing that storytelling is a soft skill that I should have learnt early in my career. Storytelling is one craft that gives a positive spin to the most useless work. It can also turn the most beautiful work into a hot garbage.
Someone grabs your jacket as you walk by and they won’t let go. Immediately, your senses are heightened. You think this person wants to fight, but you turn around to see a kind smile. Please don’t leave, they say, I see that you are a man of God and I need to know more. A humbling experience. What does it say about…
Imagine a time when the institutional machinery (read: governments & other agents that mass-organise people and resources) successfully pulls off something beyond belief. I am not talking about the run-of-the-mill political propaganda. I am talking about upheaving lives and livelihoods in a single decision. (Think the…
It’s not how smart the guy is But how passionate he is towards each thing, how interested and motivated based on his own desire That is why you do not simply let yourself tear and wear away given what life has thrown to you People has it even far more worse To operate based on pain rather than joy Is harder to…
You don’t need computer animation to experience morphing. You know what I'm talking about when a human gradually turns into an animal or an alien. One of the cool features of watching sci/fi or fantasy on film is watching the morphing. I watched my daily writing habit morph over the past eighteen months. Ok, my…
I found 105 articles about growing small businesses that I don't remember writing. I know the writing was forgettable because I'm running a business now and suffering from all of the stuff I talked about. Memory has some peculiar characteristics that help explain why so much of my writing feels like I'm shouting in…
A rule I like to use when deciding how to behave is to imagine myself from another person’s point of view. Would I engage with myself if I saw myself doing that, or being that way? It’s a way to get feedback without needing anybody else, and although not ideal, it’s a good place to start. Recently, I’ve been wanting…
I know that "Your brAnding is mOre tHan jusT Your logo" is a tired phrase of the 21st century design world and everyone seems to be throwing it around like confetti in a feeble attempt to add depth to their content. And while I'm here to mock it with you, I'm also here to be a party pooper and say it's true. Just…
Earlier this month, I wanted to fix something that's been bugging me for the longest time. On my personal blog, dates would show up to the left of post names. When I first set this up, with a kind of obtuse styling, I got the dates to line up in one "column" on the left, and then the post names to all start from the…
Ever heard this saying, “God helps those who help themselves”? I don’t know who came up with this but it is not in the bible. If everyone can help themselves, they won’t seek God.
This morning I read a timely article by one of my favorite writers and thinkers, Derek Thompson (@DKThomp on Twitter). It was titled, "Your Career Is Just One-Eighth of Your Life" and it got me thinking (as his writing and podcasts usually do). I spend a lot... A LOT... of time thinking about this one-eighth of my…
Shephards pie with chicken mince, mini pomfrets on a bed of buttered spinach, pasta with a medley of ''english'' vegetables in a tomato sauce. Green salad with a generous topping of feta. Of course, some very garlicky bread. For dessert a christmas plum cake with fresh cherries in a custard. Topped off with a bottle…
condition1 ? (condition2 ? option1 : option2) : option3 I like the conciseness of them. They are easy for me to read and reason about in the moment. They are not easy to reason about in 2 months time when I encounter it again. Its why I prefer some verboseness to ease and help future me if condition1 return condition2…
Twitter is not so much a social media company as a core part of the global digital infrastructure. Today, that core infrastructure that hosts billions of messages - from the public communications of governments, corporations, civil society and celebrities to the mundane rants of ordinary citizens - is about to pass,…
Teachers. Parents. Friends or colleagues But the one that can teach you is experiences Your own experiences and mistakes So never feel like you’ll not where you meant to be - you are! Use time wisely and explore else you’ll miss out the opportunities Of just being yourself And feeling confident Anxiety - everyone…
A sense of assurance that eventually things will fall into place and you will be more than fine. Its a state of mind which makes you calm, happy and at complete ease. The last I felt this is when I was in Kannur, Kerala for New Years. The clean and calm beach with the shades of sky changes from orange to hot pink, the…
The dusty bookshop tote, colours faded by the sun, filled with a day's worth of activity. In the safety of tranquility, we hide behind all kinds of screens. Screen to guard us from the sun's rays and screens to guard us from reality. We clutter the mind in a place built for peace. The senses heightened in every…
As a fellow degen, I've done my fair share of discord grinding. Most times, it almost feels like a job. In the rarer (and best) cases, it feels natural and becomes like a virtual third place. The problem is if you want to be a degen, you have to continue grinding in other discords to get those other WL opportunities.…
I’m sad for what I won’t experience. I can imagine walking out the front door, leaving the shade of the porch and feeling the powerful sun immerse me in its warm, like i’m getting into a hot tub without the wet feeling. Maybe all these things i will miss are things i already miss from the idealized summers in south…
Woke up at 4 AM to go through PDF of Consumer Behaviour, and later got to know that it was only 1.5 units out of 4. After messaging Bhola to send me the important topics from rest of 2.5 units, I went back to sleep and when her first message came, I woke up and went through the concepts she told me to read once. Then…
We're in a bear market and it seems like it's going to be around for a while. It's a little over 2 years since the pandemic started and we're back to seeing layoffs and continuous red candlesticks. Since 2008, slowdowns have been rare and even in 2020, when Covid just started, it was short lived. So this will probably…
Anytime I come across a person who lives based on streaks of achievement, I feel concerned. I've noticed this the most with regard to fitness. Gym rats is a commonly used word to highlight an individual's dogged resolve towards exercising. It is quite funny to me that it's called gym rats. I immediately think about…
Found this website through my best friend. Looked very minimalistic and quite cool. Might be my new place to jot down thoughts. 300 words (I think) are just enough to bring enough clarity to thoughts yet keep them succinct. Let's see.
Today has been one of the longest Sundays I’ve ever had in a while. Akriti Didi came down with her husband Bhargav. Had so much fun just talking to her and him, and generally enjoying the family talk. Early morning I helped sort things out and welcome them. Then after breakfast, had an amazing sleep. Then we went out…
Two weeks of grieving and feeling like a zombie walking through time and space. Trying to slowly get back to my normal self but, still its WIP. I feel looking back, this heartbreak was very necessary. Shows that I did end up being needy at the end of the day but I had a lot on my plate as well. Makes sense to not be…
"When the going gets tough, you have to get rough" - Some person out there probably. The value of not quitting and staying in the game. This is pretty much an unfinished thought that I have that's come as a result of what's happened in this month. Like it's a little past mid-month and I already have had results and…
I do not judge. I'm no saint and I've done my share of sins, hence I do not judge. I'm here to help in whatever way you need me to. I cannot tell you what is right or what is wrong or what you should do or what you should've done. I cannot tell you because I do not know myself. But I will do what you need me to do.…
Have a different flavour One room has mismatched socks Another, discarded earrings And yet another a space on a pillow. The kitchen is silent too Empty vessels that make no sound Wine and water turned to stains On spoons and rims of glasses. And the flowers on the balcony Nod silently And bloom regardless. December…
I think it will be weird and will take some time to get used to the two of them dating. I’ll need some time to recalibrate This will be such different roles from what I’m used to seeing. And maybe I’ll just have a lot of difficulty getting used to seeing Nelson being treated with respect and love. Seeing Shivani being…
Hoje "tropecei" na internet com um poema que eu adoro, "Do not go gentle into that good night", do Dylan Thomas. Quem assistiu Interestelar deve lembrar que o poema é mencionado várias vezes durante o filme. Na tradução de Augusto de Campos (um trechinho): "Não vás tão docilmente nessa noite linda; Que a velhice arda…
Lately I've been struggling to stay focused. Without missing a beat, the first piece of unsolicited advice I got was to try meditating. Then again. Meditation. Whether you're depressed, distracted, grieving, stressed out, anxious or, well, pretty much anything these days, you can rely on someone nearby who won't shut…
I don't know what else to call it. And jump-working sounds fun. I'm trying to describe my preferred way of working, where I basically do... whatever the fuck I like. Schedules and plans don't work for me. Themed days can go die. The absolute scatter-brain that I am, I grew frustrated with my inability to focus on…
Now in the early years of my fourth decade as an adult, am trying to determine what will end up being my go to cocktail in this decade. Wine has and will always remain my trusted and loyal companion at home. Beer will be that calm, peaceful and silent friend walking by my side. But a cocktail will take on a…
My initial foray into technology saw me working for a venture capital firm, where I became indoctrinated with the idea that tech companies must follow a pretty standardised path, raising multiple rounds of funding before a big splashy exit. And for a while, this sounded like something I wanted. More recently though,…
some of the first things that i want to read now, before i really start reading a book, is the "about the author" section and i've noticed that it is usually like - birth year - birth place - current place of residence and it's like: why? why is this the info they choose to share? and when talking about artists of any…
Walking the streets of CBD by those towering buildings, cycling along ECP, trekking to Bukit Timah and sipping on beer at the hawker centres, I thought about you for the first time in ages. I lost you when I was 9. Ever since, subconsciously and actively, I hived away whatever few memories I had of you and pushed you…
lately i've felt like time is compressed. or rather, it's malformed. it's not passing normally, is what i'm trying to say, i guess. i'm incredibly busy yet feel like i don't have much to show for it. most of it feels like a constant battle to keep up with gestures at everything it's too much sometimes. most of the…
Hated when the meeting is not done properly This morning meeting with the subcontractors is a demonstration of you shouldn’t compare yourself to the people around you You should think it all through and strive for the best What is each party going to talk about What is the technical details Think it through DURING or…
