Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, etc. are essentially platforms for making websites. The goal of next generation social media should be to realize this property: Rather than make a subreddit, or Facebook page, or Twitter account, I should make a website. Call such a website a subsite. The subsite owner retains control over…
I'm currently at a wellness hotel with my parents, enjoying fantastic 4-course menus for dinner. The contrast from university canteen food was high, yet by day 3, it's already starting to feel normal. This shows how quickly our reality shapes our perception, with new experiences rapidly becoming our new normal. We…
thick full lashes seem like an adaptation strategy to desert living...(like camels) i wonder why people think thick full lashes are so sexy are we attracted to desert dwellers? i read that when modern humans left africa, they mated with neanderthals (who come from the valley "thal" of neander) and thus gained genes…
This is my first post on nicheless. It seems like an interesting microblogging app. I like how minimalist the interface is. I even like this font. The onboarding process was easy. Getting the web page as an app icon on my iPhone screen was seamless. 300 words is a lot. That last word was my 50th. I wonder how this…
when i'm alone, i don't eat because to eat, you have to cook, and if you cook, you have to do the dishes and it's just not worth the hassle (i can't understand people for whom eating is such a pleasure that they'll go through the trouble of not only cooking, but BAKING) it turns out it's far more enjoyable to be…
As a man, a husband, in my forties, who has moved more than 5 times in my life and had to get a new collection of local friends, one piece of advice I wish I could give myself is: never is an opportunity to "get real" with someone. When folks ask: "how's it going?" the reflex is to keep the response as shallow as…
The big picture is tempting, especially if you’ve been there before. You think you know exactly how to get there. There’s a problem focusing on the big picture. Whether it’s familiar or new, there are many distractions. Having that big picture in mind is needed as a goal. The options you have to reach the goal can be…
- a way to receive money - a portfolio (Zapper) - your identity (ENS) - an access key (to discords and events) - a treasury account (for DAOs) - an investment club (by Syndicate) - your reputation (6529) - your verifiable track record (trading history) - an art collection (with NFTs) - an email/chat account (via…
I have a friend at work who is absolutely convinced that the World Economic Forum is a nefarious organization that is slowly reaching its long tentacles into every conceivable aspect of human life. "The agenda," as he calls it, is the WEF's plan to have us all eat crickets, own nothing, and live in…
i am thinking of writing fan letters to my favorite authors. what do you think? i'm thinking of specifically: - megan boyle - i would like to say: i love your sense of humor, i love that you expanded my beliefs about what a "book" is and opened my tiny tiny mind up to the world of possibilities - jordan castro - a…
Understand the power of now By doing it without procrastinate By doing small tasks well - people will notice you Don’t be worried about doing plum assignment Do what you like to do - don’t think what you want to be (rich, be successful etc) Think what you actually like and enjoy doing Make your eyes small - don’t make…
In the foggy winter of 2011, my father constantly nudged me towards a tennis class, just two blocks from home. He was concerned for my fitness, as I had, for over three years, preferred the digital companionship of my PSP over evenings outside with neighborhood friends. A crisp, filled-out form for Penguin School's…
You’ve heard you should journal first thing in the morning. Get up early to spend some time with gratitude and bring clarity to the day to come. You’ve heard you should journal at night. Don’t go to bed without reflecting on your day and settling your mind. I advised both of those. You must journal both in the morning…
Thanks to the generous human beings like Tarra sharing their own knowledge-making and knowledge management journeys in LYT. I continue to extract my thoughts about Legacy PKM. Because of sharing in the LYT community, thoughts that have been evolving for more than two years are being further sparked. Ryuichi Sakamoto I…
You need to keep a habit of doing everything small correct and nicely; Else you’ll just reward yourself for being as you should: like being on time, went to the gym, don’t keep yourself too harsh but don’t keep yourself too loose & without control and discipline. “The most free people are the ones who control…
do you remember when you were 19 and called 28 year olds "silver foxes"? you are now 30.
just because you're entitled to an opinion, doesn't mean you're required to get one. and just because you relinquish your right to an opinion, doesn't mean you're an idiot. the brain cells required to keep up with that shit can be spent elsewhere, if you so wish it's called the freedom of thought. when i hang out with…
it's haunting the extent to which i have gone quiet. last night i opened my instagram after a long time. it's purely an exhibitionist platform, but that aside i've some threads in there. most of them begin to grow quiet around 2018, gradually deafening in 2019 and coming to complete silence in 2020 - when i quit. i've…
“This is what I’m thinking about where to stay on our vacation.” I’m talking to my husband. The decision about where we stay will affect both of us. It’s important that he be in on this conversation. Even when my decisions don’t affect others directly, I talk to myself. Saying what I’m thinking clarifies my options…
It only takes a second for your routine to be thrown off. Lightning hit our TV. It was our only TV. We don’t watch TV that much. It’s a nice way to wind down at the end of the day. We enjoy sports (it’s baseball season!). We love old movies. With no TV what will we do? Lucky for me, I have other pastimes. I am not…
I understand they happen to be there because it's cheaper and simpler, but what a tasteless and generic place to put them. Lighting can be beautiful if you set the sources gracefully. Indirect lighting can make a magic atmosphere and functional lightning can be a great tool depending on your goals. But "one light bulb…
Reading the news, one can easy to feel the world is falling apart. But is it? Or is it us, thinking things are worse than they are? When a major plane crash happens, the front pages worldwide scream, “Plane crashed in XYZ.” And if you have a flight coming up, seeing this can make you freeze. It’s well-documented that…
the most sexy people is people who knows what they’re doing Doing what’s important to them and achieving them Not by watching others living their lives, that’s very unsexy Doing what you loved to do And doing it is kinda sexy and it happens by doing And by doing you need discipline That’s why you gotta protect your…
i am a temporary software developr my code is written is compiled but never commited i forget it the binary exists but its not mine anymore it's someone elses
If our mind were a sail, then thoughts are the wind, Wandering aimlessly thoughts begin Winds go astray with no rudder to guide Lost and alone in a sea of pride Crowded thoughts but a lonely mind In a stormy sea there's little to find Reach out to where there is no need to hide In the midst of a loved one by your side…
Empathy. Extremely important in the care industry. “You know you’re not being empathetic enough if the person in front of you ain’t crying” - I have always heard. As part of my day job, I am not supposed to be anyone’s therapist, but I end up needing to demonstrate empathy. When I was younger, I stuck to canned…
Most of the work I am most excited to accomplish feels nebulous in nature. Maybe it's partially my level of current understanding (true expertise is abstraction/compression of complex ideas into mental models, frameworks, puns, analogies and stories), but living in the unknown is one of my most favorite feelings. In…
party slut my friend and i were walking on venice beach and two guys came up to us and they were like what do you do and i'm like i'm a piano teacher and they were like holy shit we're musicians too and they showed us their music and it was legit good and i showed them my chopin nocturne op 9 no 1 and they were like…
I'm probably going to end up sleeping a little later than usual tonight, because I really need to get this out. Been feeling a little excited about life lately. Happier even, you could say. There's a certain level of enthusiasm I feel when I think about the future. There's still a lot to overcome in terms of a lot of…
The first "fact" that I learnt in childhood was "the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Our day lies in these two extremes. The window of observation between these two extremes is underrated. As the sun swim towards the west, it paints the world around us in multiple strokes of extravagance. From the pesky…
Running around my neighborhood has made me bitter. I see piles of trash on the side of the road and I tell myself a story about people that don't care. I see more and trash and I feel more anger. What can I do? What control do I have? The same control I tell my kids that they have - I can only control myself. So I'm…
Tomorrow the New York marathon of 2022 is on. Me and my wife are joining 50 000 other runners in NYC in the starting line. Everywhere you look tonight you’ll find runners preparing for tomorrow. Did I get the right energy? Have I prepared my breakfast right? How much time do I need for my morning routine to make it to…
Have you ever come across a woman who stole your heart from the moment you first laid eyes on her? I met her two weeks ago. A blazing soul that seared away any remnants of my past lovers. She laughs at my jokes. She blushes when I flirt. When I offer chocolates she declines once and then accepts. I told her she was…
Friendly reminder to save your amazing ideas before they disappear into the void. Find a note app you love, or go old school with a note pad. Simple pen and paper. Write your ideas down right when you think of them. Review them daily. Don't forget to take action. Let your ideas live. Don't let them die on the page.…
Today I changed the layout of my phone. Home screen has only three widgets: Google Search, Spotify, My Tasks. Next screen has Weather, Gmail, and eight spots for apps. Next screen has only a calendar. I doom scroll entirely too much and this is an attempt to stop that. So far, so good. I intend on contributing a daily…
I wanted to save myself from me. It was a horrifying experience where I was so scared of my life that I wanted to end it because all I could hear myself say was that I am not enough. I started chasing money, power, fame. It then reached a point where I wanted to do everything to prove a point to myself that I am…
"Everything you want is on the other side of cringe". I read that line somewhere on X, and it changed the way I judge my own actions. It's one of those rare sentences that illuminates a truth that has been experienced but not verbalized. I love those sentences. Anyway, I digress. Cringe is an emotional barrier that…
There lived a man in southern Spain He had no penny, no fear, no pain Into an alley he lost his way Ran into gold, saved it for a rainy day Not a day went past, he didn't count it all His friends now few and fears grew tall Looking for more in his alley of gold With nothing to share he grew lonely and old The weight…
Learnt smtg from Bryan - age really don’t matter What matters is the level of thinking and what do you think Your way of dealing with people The worst and dumb people is not working and worry this and that Meanwhile the most cleverest is just live in the moment and work the best In no matter what situation He’ll be…
We are the patient-zero generation for a lot of things that were, safe to say, uncommon practices even a decade and a half ago. When Walt Whitman said, “The future is no more uncertain than the present”, he implied that while what is to come is hard to tell. It is equally hard to understand the consequences of our…
Do music help us to form narratives in our head? Do some music make us think about conflicts while others about compassion? Do our brains have the ability to translate the signals from music into more structured words, sentences and stories? Recently I have been inspired to think and write about topics that I feel are…
I just discovered Nicheless from Hacker News. I really like the design and concept so far. Also, the 300 word post limit -- combined with the fact that today is November 1st -- has given me an idea: NaNoWriMo is a annual competition to write a novel within a month, starting November 1st. The minimum word count goal is…
I'll start by saying this is might be a controversial take. I'm not here to stir the pot, but I'm here to try and keep my own sanity. This past week brought a lot of noise around Elon Musk taking over Twitter. I must have listened to 10 podcasts, glanced at hundreds of tweets, and probably missed thousands of more…
