Light bulbs in the middle of the room's ceiling suck

I understand they happen to be there because it's cheaper and simpler, but what a tasteless and generic place to put them.

Lighting can be beautiful if you set the sources gracefully. Indirect lighting can make a magic atmosphere and functional lightning can be a great tool depending on your goals.

But "one light bulb in the middle of the room's ceiling" is a lazy and cheap design/execution.

P.S. The next time you're in a room at night and your own shadow is blocking what you want to see, check where is the light source.
