My Daily Nicheless. Vol. 1 Num. 1
Today I changed the layout of my phone. Home screen has only three widgets: Google Search, Spotify, My Tasks. Next screen has Weather, Gmail, and eight spots for apps. Next screen has only a calendar. I doom scroll entirely too much and this is an attempt to stop that. So far, so good. I intend on contributing a daily Nicheless entry every night with a Task scheduled for 9pm. Dated Tasks are accompanied with a timed notification on my phone. I don't have any particular subjects in mind, but plan on going with whatever comes to mind each day. Perhaps an event that occurred during the day, something significant I read, or a song or album that left an impression on me. For example, today I have been listening to Zeta, a band that is opening for The Fall of Troy on September 18 at The House of Blues. They are a Venezuelan Post-Rock outfit touted as a multidisciplinary experiment. So far I have listened to their two most recent albums and am very impressed. Hopefully it translates to their live show, which something tells me it will. As far as literature, I have been reading James Nagel's introduction to John Steinbeck's "The Pastures of Heaven", a collection of twelve short stories set in the California valley where he grew up. I've also begun "Papyrus" The Invention of Books in the Ancient World. It begins with Alexander The Great, Ptolemy, and the founding of Alexandria. Emissaries were dispatched by emperors to gather books for their libraries. The book tells how the written word and books in particular have been and always will be the vehicle for civilization. Considering my love of books and literature I was enthralled when I found it at my local library. Until my next daily, adios.
