Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
If there's one thing you should know about me, it is that I adore cinema. It is my favorite art form without a doubt. Its powers are like no other. And what would be better than to make more people aware of its majestic qualities. I present you a list of 5 movies that would interest to watch and dig deeper into this…
An old colleague messaged me today about a memory he had of me. We haven't been in touch for a long time, so I was surprised at the message. I enjoy dancing. The times when all of us went out after work, I'd let my hair down. It was my first job after graduation. Our team was small, and most employee-manger rules…
Listen to more podcast. W.o.w just Be more accepting. The charismatic people are usually competent - but doesn’t necessarily means JUST smart. It means knowing the stuff but knowing how to convey as well. It’s good to have the ability to stop 🛑 1. 2. 3. But within these 3 seconds you’re actually buying time to…
We must spend and manage these well in order to achieve our best experience of life. Time is the toughest as once we spend it we cannot get it back, so we must cautious in how we spend it. This is a difficult thing to do though, as we human beings love love. We love being loved and we love showing love, and one of the…
I usually listen to music on YouTube (and think YouTube premium is rather underrated). I particularly like to watch musicians in their natural state and not 'performing'. Radio station interviews/ broadcasts are a standard fixture. A couple of days ago, I stumbled upon a Tiny Desk Concert by Alicia Keys on NPR. She…
The world of crypto has been rocked (yet again) with the FTX news. Weirdly enough, Meta also announced that they were laying off 11,000 employees today (the bottom?). The whole FTX saga unfolded really fast - just a few days - and that's what I find fascinating. One might view this as bad since FTX was a pretty large…
today should be a good day if we would be a could be.
every day you must take time a short time to eat a cookie there will be a time that a cookie will be the last cookie you'll ever eat so if you eat a cookie every day you're fighting the chances that the cookie you last ate was the ultimate last cookie of your life don't waste time on bad cookies
Most people don’t know what to do or what is in their future. It’s not easy & that’s meant to be. To do something difficult & to study - that’s a good way of life. You’re kinda okay with the hardness and the toughness of construction industry now. You can literally do anything else! Fail more. And fail quick. Any…
it's better to spend time alone than to be bored by people. after the norwegians left, i haven't really enjoyed hanging out with other people our age because all they want to talk about is BOAT PROJECTS and i sit there thinking about how they're wasting my time and how i wish i could go read and write but when you're…
A while back at a public event, I saw a guy with a shirt that had a design with those words (it was a cool design btw). It was one of those moments that you are like "ohhh, cool shirt" and that's it. But the phrase got stuck in my head, so much so that later on, I wrote a note on my cellphone. With everything I've…
Hannah Arendt defined totalitarianism as the elimination of the individual. A totalitarian regime seeks uncontested authority over one's inner thoughts, feelings, and beliefs, in addition to one's actions and utterances. All action is either forbidden or mandatory; individual will is subsumed as an instrument of the…
Read this in a post on Instagram which said, "It's crazy how each day that passes feels the same, but when we look back, everything seems different." I was dissolved in a trail of thoughts. I think a big reason for this is that change often happens gradually, in a series of small events. It's not always a one-time…
Today, I went to the mall with my nephews and cousins. In the toy section, the kids' eyes widened with a spark of excitement. As I looked at the toys, I started to see things that were so cute but useless, and I found myself wanting them too. My mom bought my nephew a huge box of Pokémon cards. I thought, "You already…
Omfg, seems like something big is happening in La Paz City. === anon8858 I’m still recovering from the shock of the assassination attempt on General Rodriguez. I was there covering the General’s speech for El Subsuelo. This is the most disturbing scene I’ve ever witnessed. The General was arriving at the stage when a…
It's a toxic question. We like to press ourselves with it all the time. We use it to police each other. Diagnose the problem. Administer medication. It's how we like to handle problems. The question points our attention inwards and focuses on the mess we're swirling in. A better question is: What matters to you? This…
Do you rest by moving to territory that isn’t challenging you? Sit on the couch so you’re not physically challenged, eat familiar foods so you’re not sensory challenging, binge netflix so that you’re not mentally challenged. Or do you rest by expanding the comfortable territory until it contains where your current…
I am trying so hard to let people continue to be who they are. But I'm not having any success. It makes so much more sense to smile politely and have a superficial R'ship instead of expecting reciprocal sincerity, integrity and loyalty. Enforcing your boundaries time and again is exhausting and I have always withdrawn…
From Write of Passage, Peek-a-Boo and Pocket Pool - https://www.shirleyfrivera.com/blog/peek-a-boo-and-pocket-pool - the following are edited excerpts "... where what you saw was not quite the complete reality of what it was." COFFEE BREAK ... awarded an unprecedented salary increase. Cornered by a Principal in a…
Most schools, at least the kind I went to too, are pointless and do more harm than good. People spend about 15 years of their life in schools. During this period, I feel they loose creativity and curiosity. They are taught to compete with peers and learn that failing is a bad thing. They are taught things which are…
Unstructured work is under appreciated. It's the kind of work you do when there are unknown unknowns. Or when you're searching for a solution that might exist, but you don't know where to look. Or the work you do in pursuit of perfection, which can never be recognised, except in its absence. The process can be…
Ahhhhh speaking with an AI has moments of joy thinking about all the possibilities. then it's content quickly changes and reality tells me we have a very long way before all our possibilities will be realized...
There is something aching in my throat. It clings like a desperate spore, spewing and propagating upon itself, reiterating, wanting to be more but only manifesting as pain. I call it pain but really it is longing. I used to look at the world as a child did. Now I have developed floaters in my retinal fluid. Reticent…
ahh some ideas initially spark a lot of enthusiasm. now that same idea does not interest me, it lacks substance. the hard question to answer is do i continue to peruse the idea by giving it more substance? only if the idea to better it sparks stronger enthusiasm than the original idea. this would become a totally…
when it feels like it’s not going to work out when you think you’ve exhausted all your options when it feels like the end of the road you have a decision to make keep going or move on but no matter what choice you make you’ve gotta remember this none of it was a waste of energy there’s a lesson in everything you did…
门当户对 - it's the relationship / survival skills. You did have love with YQ but it doesn't work in the end But if you're not - you gotta work hard to get there -------------- Because never compare. There's so much things that you can do when you're single. Focus on something that you won't regret You think you will…
Using a person's name in conversation is more than a simple courtesy; it's a powerful tool for building connection. It can foster a sense of familiarity and trust, particularly when meeting someone new. I've noticed that when others did it with me - the interaction feels much more engaging. Now, I am trying to make it…
An observation I had while waiting at the international airport departure terminal in Bangalore. Picture a 40,000 square feet departure lounge. Interspersed with a mix of cafes, restaurants and plenty of lounge chairs, sleeping pods and tables. The departure gates on their part are on the outer periphery of this…
I wanted to save myself from me. It was a horrifying experience where I was so scared of my life that I wanted to end it because all I could hear myself say was that I am not enough. I started chasing money, power, fame. It then reached a point where I wanted to do everything to prove a point to myself that I am…
Sim. Cáries. Então, precisei tirar. Os dois…
One way to become a better writer is to take the same idea and try to get that idea across to different audiences. If you have a few places that you write, you might think that if you write one idea in one place, that’s good enough. A journal entry has just yourself as the audience. A technical blog has an audience…
I am in the fortunate position that opportunities have consistently come my way over the years without deliberate planning on my part. Rather than meticulously strategizing every move, I've gone with the flow, relying on my instincts to guide my decisions when opportunities arise. Key to this approach has been my open…
This wall is from Dhobi Talao and is close to Marine Lines and Marine Street. It was home to a pond used to wash sailors' white uniforms and a community of Goans who had as deep a connection to sea and sailing as the sailors from far-off places who called Bombay their temporary home. If we dig maps, will we find the…
In February 2024, I opened an account on 750words.com — a private journal for free-writing, where the goal is simple: write at least 750 words, every day. As I typed, I noticed a short lag between pressing a keyboard key and the letter appearing on screen. The lag was subtle, but erratic enough to start grabbing my…
So, what should I write here? Could it become my digital diary, or maybe just a place to spill out my thoughts? It's such a strange time right now... Missile attacks, blackouts, air alerts, no electricity for 3 days in a row. Maybe that's a good time to start something big and something new?
1. What's the biggest business a single person can build without any employees? 2. Can a society with diverse, conflicting values survive? 3. Is it better to embrace human nature and play status games or fight it and attempt to avoid them? 4. What factors make a place worth living in? 5. How can I help my hometown…
The second post on this journal should have come sooner. When I started, I had envisioned myself writing weekly, if not daily. I had grossly underestimated the toll that a change of surroundings can take on a person. When I was back in India, I would get enamoured by how eminent writers like Hemingway used to spend…
These words have jumped out to me daily, the last 6 months has been happy and rough, I carry the heavy weight of "I wish, I had". I have carried this weight year after year, I know what to do but I find it difficult to do, back to ground zero every single time, solving for everyone except me, getting away with the…
i once had a piano student who had glenn gould energy a little baby of 7 or 10 years old and he told me he only plays the piano to impress girls i thought so young...and he already knows what life is about.
Fico tão feliz de ver o quanto ele me apoia. O avião atrasou bem. Mas finalmente…
i chose this topic because this was the recent one i came across. I really do have a big question as to why the dresses made in the met gala are so not normal and not wearable by the normal people like you and me. If something should be encouraged it should have a meaning behind it i can't see what good does it…
The problem with being an expert on Twitter is that there's no obligation to back your claims up with any real world experience. The fact that you can regurgitate other peoples ideas with little to no consequence means that, over time, people on twitter drift towards more talk, and less walk. I can't believe I'm…
Never hearing that you are loved, but having the fridge full of food —the Asian way. Never receiving an apology when they are wrong, but instead being asked if you are hungry or want some fruit —the Asian way. Being pushed to follow their dream life instead of yours, but receiving financial support —the Asian way.…
i'm reading the kāma sūtra and it is not a great book in the sense that if you were to do what it says to do, you will be further from the goals it promises you'd achieve. (namely, that of taking general pleasure in life) but the kāma sūtra is great as a glimpse into the lives of wealthy indians of an ancient past if…
This line from any James Bond movie seems to be a part of the franchise and has sustained over the last six decades. In fact, it's safe to say it's a part of Mr. Bond's identity. Therefore when I was recently gifted a bottle of vermouth, I wanted to experiment making martinis and I went down my own rabbit hole of why…
When I was a kid, when guests come home, I would be so painfully shy, to go and just lock myself in the other room. I couldn't understand why my parents were angry and upset with my behaviour, i just liked to be by myself. My son does the same thing what I was as a child, when guests come, he runs away of recedes into…
