What Will Alicia Keys Do Once She Stops Singing?
I usually listen to music on YouTube (and think YouTube premium is rather underrated).
I particularly like to watch musicians in their natural state and not 'performing'. Radio station interviews/ broadcasts are a standard fixture.
A couple of days ago, I stumbled upon a Tiny Desk Concert by Alicia Keys on NPR.
She has evolved into a beautiful 40-something 'soul and blues' singer from the time she started as an outright pop-artist a couple of decades ago.
(Not many have the good fortune or the endurance to be Madonna).
And that got me thinking.
How long will Alicia Keys continue to adapt?
What will Alicia Keys do once she stops singing?
What do people who have spent their entire lives honing a single craft do once that craft isn't an option?
While I have no reason to think that Alicia doesn't have other talents or isn't well-rounded, I am sure there must be a moment, even if fleeting, where she feels like a one-trick pony.
And that got me thinking about how insidious imposter syndrome can be:
Spend all your life pursuing one craft and you think you are a one-trick pony.
Spend all your life pursuing many things and you think you are the Platte River - a mile wide and an inch deep.
There's no winning against it.
