Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
Treat your environment like a high school, you will graduate, accept their diploma, walk across their stage, and finally throw your square hat in the air. Treat your environment like a laboratory and you will own creations and potions, but keep it clean or explosions can happen. Treat your environment like a garden…
As a positive person, I still have a strong Eeyore characteristic. I have doubts. You seldom hear me express this side of my personality. Acting positive and confident follows the belief that you should act like you want to be. So I appear to have a positive outlook. Which, of course, I do have, except for when I…
Outside of work and family time, I have about five free hours each day to build my side projects, learn new skills, practise old ones, and enjoy my hobbies. I wish I had more, but as someone who doesn't have kids yet, I'll take it. 5 hours is plenty. But I've been trying to figure out how to spend those 5 hours. I'm…
i feel like ppl who doesn't know how to write, write "poetry" i want to try reading the bell jar even tho i'm against reading books by depressed people since depressed people can only speak from the point of view that life is pointless but i want to know what the fuss is about and i want to know how to dismiss it in…
The little firm that I was was part of setting up in March 2000 now has over 600 lawyers and is heading towards having one hundred partners. Its place in the top echelon of the Indian law firm world is well established. It is an admired employer, trusted by clients and seasoned lawyers see it as the platform to…
For the longest time, whenever I would be asked, "where do you see yourself in 5 years?", my mind would stray away. The beauty of human imagination is that it is unrestricted. A thought is swift enough to traverse wide enough. I would wonder if it is a luxury car, a big house, frequent travelling, ability to lay my…
ahhhhhh a reoccurring shape i use in creation is a sphere. why do i use it? the reason derives from a quote by Andrea Branzi "the distance between the natural world and artificial world no longer exists today, because the latter has become second nature". this quote resonates with me, i exists both naturally and…
I was having a quick bite at a local cafe, when I noticed a man sitting calmly in the waiting area with his (apparently) 10-year-old daughter. It was nothing out of the ordinary, so I wasn't paying close attention. Soon, a lady from the staff called the man to the counter, telling him that his order was ready. The guy…
Often, when we do things we overlook things and don't see the blind spots. In retrospect they look stupid and trivial to point that you get harsh on yourself. You often say things to yourself like "how can you be so dumb?" and "i should have been careful and not so naive". You start questioning your ability and it…
Wife, after sharing second thoughts about starting a new job: "Do you think they're the kind of people who would hire a woman just because she's a woman?" Me: "Wondering whether you're the benefactor of affirmative action feels kind of gross, doesn't it?" Wife: "Ugh" I should note that the Hebrew term for that…
ahh- no warning, just locked instantly for a set time. no way to dispute until the timer runs out. very frustrating...
You can know everything there is to know about a subject, but without credibility, no one will listen to what you have to say. Understanding that credibility in most fields is demonstrated through group affiliations, not IQ points, can help you present the truth in the best light, without fabricating it. In the 4-Hour…
I took my borrowed bike from the home at which I was staying in Okayama City, Japan. It was summer and hot. The insects always woke up first, giving off a smooth, undulating chatter like a room full of partygoers all conversing to the rhythm of an unseen conductor. I didn't know where I wanted to go, only that I…
(literally 100 whole metric tons consisting only of $100 bills) i would: - buy forests/jungles/islands (as well as politicians) and declare these areas "protected national parks" - buy land that's currently being used for cultivating palm oil and mining lithium/etc. and reforest them, reintroduce native plants and…
Encouragement is something everyone needs, but not everyone has, and it’s a crucial part of our development. For me, encouragement is like a gentle push or a small gust of wind that propels a boat. It provides direction and a bit of force, but ultimately, it’s up to the boat to decide how to use this wind to sail.…
I don't think anyone except Germans uses this English saying. It basically means “If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it“. And I think that is complete bullshit in todays dynamic world. Sticking to established methods without seeking improvements is not neutral, it is destructive. But too many people think like that,…
(original: 2006 03 April) tasks and priorities constantly change. learn how to prioritize. - Silver Lining somewhat related to (or contributing to the antithesis of) SL Tip 7, prioritizing is critical when on the job. (actually, it's basically similar to making decisions about how to spend your money ... but wait!…
During a conversation today I had a bit of difficulty describing what it means to express oneself. After several false starts that kept falling back on circular definitions, eventually we arrived at something that seemed to fit: doing something that makes one feel alive. On the face of it, it seems rather silly to…
According to Mr. C It’s okay to not know because you’re new He looks at you for your capability; potential IQ is the same It’s just that new people might not know and will be all over the place in the beginning Never throw the task to seniors Take up the responsibility and actually do it as well You could’ve been…
In my previous blog, I wrote about an interrupted childhood - one where I was a day away from beginning tennis classes, when my family broke apart over the course of one consequential night. A few weeks ago, I decided to experience the reality that could have altered my childhood. Life throws curveballs at us that we…
another Saturday alone. its as if i have been jogging in place for years and year and years. maybe its time for huge change. massive uprooting of my pattern. What i desire is companionship and desire leads too suffering. perhaps what i want lies within companionship. What exactly is it about companionship is…
It’s funny how many arguments are essentially semantics and can be made into total nonsense if you play taboo. Another big category seems to be essentially arguing about various axes of morality. “You hate the rich and yet you drive an SUV which is bad for the environment? sus!” But these are two different axes. You…
The world is changing too fast. I'm not sure what the turning point was, but I went from thinking of people as old school, to realising that I'm finding it hard to keep up with the times. Social media is a constant reminder of this. A few years ago, I consoled myself that it was ok to stay off the gram as the negative…
A golgappa is an emotion. For most of us who have grown up in India, regardless of which part, it is symbolic of acceptance and surrender. Surrendering to the magic of the vendor who assembles the puri and dunks it in the spiced water before handing it over to you. Magic, because we really don't know what to expect.…
There is something strangely tender about being alive at the same time as everything else. About breathing while cities hum, seasons turn, people fall in and out of love, and the world continues without asking how you’re doing. We spend so much time believing we should have arrived somewhere by now. As though there is…
Moms article came in the paper today. We had such a nice and sweet time with all of us in Ammamma’s room as atta read out the article to us. The dogs were there, everyone was so happy, it was just really sweet. We were actually woken up by a phone call from moms friend congratulating her. I realised it’s a big deal…
Life is just a game - don’t feel so uptight and harsh on yourself; especially if you f up too many things It’s just consequences; every action and thought process will lead to one and another I just hope at this age you’ll be mature enough to know the significance of - Not going to the gym Sleeping early Don’t think…
last night was norwegian taco night. e was like "do you guys want to play a game?" i said "yeah" then he made us take a political stances test and he put in my scores and said "it says right here you are a fascist"
Getting home from work and being in a kitchen all day it makes you realize how much more you want that dream to work. Cooking it’s cool it’s fun and creative but to be doing all day? Not that cool. . . Need to hyper focus more on the dream/goal
If you’re starting a journaling habit, there’s no reason to write deep thoughts. You need to concentrate on the habit you’re creating. You want to be consistent at the same time each day. It doesn’t even matter what you are journaling. It matters that you are journaling. Making your journaling habit easy to complete…
I believe in the power of swiping. I believe it is a song continually singing left or flipping right, delighting in the minor and major of it all and the fall of the green and the birth of the ice and the magnificent way we all stop to think twice about our lives, our dreams, our reams of baroque reasoning our ways…
Excerpt from the 2015 Ursula K. Le Guin Vogue interview. Interviewer: Abby Aguirre ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ In response to Le Guin‘s 2014 national book award remarks; ‚We’ll need writers who can remember freedom. [...] We need writers who know the difference between production of a market commodity and the practice of an art,‘…
Know the workings of the system. Think about - deep dive into internal work on yourself. People leave you again and again and again. Is it your immaturity to actually think it’s their fault? It’s so normal for people to leave for their own goods. You must be mature if you don’t have the power or influence on their…
Have you ever have conversations You think you wants to be ready before And you slight regretted you only get to think of what you think and should’ve said One minute after what you said. You can only be ready When you keep thinking about it When your mind is occupied about the thing You can’t let yourself caught off…
Back from spending time with "family" - not blood, but "adopted". had to drag myself out a bit to get there, but had a thoroughly good time with them, some of whom I hadn't seen in person for several years. It can be nice to have non-family family around. No word from my buddy, but then again, for all his faults and…
I think all of us growing up in India have never learned how to say 'No.' Since childhood, we got trained to respect elders and comply with their requests. A harmless practice in childhood that later leads to many ill-formed mechanisms as we grow older. A major downside of it often is our inability to know if we want…
I prefer packing last minute. It has helped me pack better and not forget the essential items. But this preference is in stark contrast with that of my parents. My mum packs about 2-3 days in advance, and my dad at least the day prior. My preference started changing when I began traveling without my parents. At first,…
I was in Italy for a week and just got back to Cambridge, UK. Arriving at the train station and driving through the city to my apartment in an Uber was a nice experience. A city I visited for the first time only three months ago, which felt so foreign back then, now feels so familiar. I recognize the routes, can…
one thing i’ve been thinking about a lot is what i’ve thought of as “what-the-fuck art” that is, those artworks that are so weird and so confusing that you can’t help but go “what the fuck, why is this… like this? what series of decisions and beliefs led the artist to think these make sense together?” — i suppose any…
As I currently sit on the rooftop of my co-living community, I’m reflecting on what I’m grateful for during the past year here. One of the most beautiful experiences has been witnessing how everyone contributes something unique to the community based on what they love and who they are. I’m constantly trying to push…
why is cocaine illegal but instagram legal? is it because cocaine is made by latin americans but instagram was made by a white man with an east asian wife? it's not that there is anything wrong with instagram per se, but people are base and they don't know what's good for them so they use it in ways that give power to…
Questioning the notion of free will seems to be in fashion nowadays. So what is this idea of "free will?" I think a lot of us have an intuitive sense of what it is. It's the idea that our personal sense of agency or identity is what originates our actions. Who does what we do? Well, we do. If you're out for a walk…
one of the nicest things about being a hospital for over 5 hours is the kind of people you meet. note that when i say 'meet' i don't mean small talk, making new friends type of meeting - i mean instances where you start recognising another's face and when they smile at you, you smile back. those type of interactions…
i find listening to content while working prescribes higher quality to the output. when designing for a creative output; poetry that influenced many great artists is highly productive listening. their creation influences my thinking, it forces my mind into a state of deliberation...
