Decoupling and axes of meaning
It’s funny how many arguments are essentially semantics and can be made into total nonsense if you play taboo.
Another big category seems to be essentially arguing about various axes of morality. “You hate the rich and yet you drive an SUV which is bad for the environment? sus!” But these are two different axes.
You could argue for total decoupling but that isn’t realistic.
I wish for better representations of the things people actually believe. There’s too much flattening of moral complexity. Hell, it seems like most people think it boils down to one axis (Left or Right). Maybe if there was some visual or accepted way to expressing things, it’d be better understood. Maybe we need a buzzfeed quiz with a scatter plot for what people actually believe.
Of course, virtue signaling ruins any benefit from actually publishing these. “You ranked the environment over education?! Don’t you care about children?!”
But this might be the most important issue of our time. The divisiveness this brings is making us hate one another.
