Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
Most of us have hobbies or interests that are a part of, or define who we are. Some make a career out of it, going in deep and letting their curiosity lead them wherever it goes. Others just like being able to relax, doing what they enjoy. But there are some who are interested in a multitude of things, so many objects…
(original: 15 January 2006) part of series while moving from san diego to the sf bay area ... GARAGE SALE FUN ... Yesterday (Saturday), our little compound had a garage sale - which was preceded by the garage clean out on Friday. Matt, Garry, Scud (an awesome bassador) and I sifted through "lots o' stuff". (picture -…
I keep looking here, but there's nothing here. I can't look away. I come here without thinking. When I realize I've been lassoed again, I feel shame for it. And then I stay, as though I am not the one who is feeling that shame. My mind is divided against itself. Some day, I will look back and realize that this place…
my sleep was really poor i blame it on (1) lack of exercise (2) having to sleep next to a person (3) said person "forcing" me to watch movies with him, but delaying the start of the movie until late because he has to "work on something", causing unfavorable screen lights to enter my field of consciousness and…
It's been a while since I wrote. A whole month has passed. There was some anxiety closer to the NT Scan when I started bleeding a little. Nothing to worry, baby is doing well. We made a baby announcement. Was happy to share this news with the world. Almost 15 weeks pregnant now. A long way to go, but have also come a…
I have always wanted to build a writing habit for the longest time. However a combination of imposter syndrome, unavailability of time, not prioritising writing and fear of my bad content stopped me. A major factor was also the world around me which shared their writing on social media. I was even afraid to create a…
To top off three days of being an excellent host, my pal Christian gives me a selection of six of his favourite German beers as a reward for my having run the Berlin Marathon. Classy. From Berlin, I must travel to Kuwait to make a pitch to an oil and gas company. The beverages go into my check-in luggage. Arriving in…
Step 7 - While the cooker stuff is happening, you can start on the second component, which is the rice. Boil the water (almost 2 + 2 times the cup of rice added) only with the bay leaf, a cardamom and a clove and a few drops of oil. Add a few leaves of mint. Squeeze a little lemon for a zing. Step 8 - Add the soaked…
The cold, empty space stares back at me: What if it doesn't resonate? What if I'm not pleased with it? Tick-tock More seconds elapse and I don't even have a draft to call first. It's an uncomfortable feeling. Staring across the chasm between the brilliant insight in your mind and the not-yet-articulated onto the…
Voltei pra minha casa.
The early 1990s, summer holidays meant staying at a beautiful Boston suburb with my Maasi and her family. She used to brew a pot of an aromatic fresh coffee everyday. Occasionally we would drive to a local Dunkin Donuts for a quick takeaway. A trip to Montreal and Quebec with my cousins was an eye opener, so many…
"Is it nice, my preciousss? Is it juicy? Is it scrumptiously crunchable?" my friend said he'd been wanting to read clarice lispector because he'd seen some of her quotes floating around and he'd enjoyed them i like that...using quotes like ice cream samples
do you remember when you were 19 and called 28 year olds "silver foxes"? you are now 30.
One of the difficult parts about writing is determining the level of zoom. Zoom in too close, and it's a journal only relevant to you. Zoom out too far, and it's too generic to catch the attention of anyone in particular. Choosing the right balance is an overlooked nuance in writing. I've read many good pieces, which…
ahhhhhh a reoccurring shape i use in creation is a sphere. why do i use it? the reason derives from a quote by Andrea Branzi "the distance between the natural world and artificial world no longer exists today, because the latter has become second nature". this quote resonates with me, i exists both naturally and…
All thanks to Winters: I'm basking in sun while writing this. Sun's warmth feels too heavenly these days. My society's ground is filled with people, majorly grannies with their grand kids. Every person present here has come down of their matchboxes to soak in some Vit-D. I can see so many teletubbies having fun,…
Just saw though - from a dying 23 yo patient His last ideal was to bring his kindness and love to everyone around him And he hoped to be remembered from that Because when I was poor I was not in the right state of mind My mind was abit evil and selfish I didn’t want to spend time with my ex because I wanted to focus…
I have heard (and read) from many people that writing is not so much an activity done for others, it's for oneself. Writing is a way to take something from all that jumbled mess of thoughts on the head and put it down on paper (or online). What happens when we write is that notions we have, that we think we know well,…
Yes, the freedom is great. You can set your own time, your own rate - which is usually higher than an employee, and you can work on exciting stuff. But most of the time, it is very mercenary. You are not a part of the community that surrounds the project. You weren't there when it was only an idea, and often you're…
This is the deal. There are no "one size fits all" solutions in reality. You can see this out there in different realms. Be it the product creation, the medical, online course, financial and so on. It's like that meme of the different characters along the bell curve. Which also relates quite well with the graph of…
The title of the post is a misnomer-I have not written much except when compelled to on a few occasions. In that sense, a more appropriate title would have been "why I'm starting to write and hope to continue writing". However, the urge to plagiarize Orwell and the fear of turning readers away at the outset combined…
Such a stupid word, really. Disappointment. According to Oxford, "sadness or displeasure caused by the nonfulfillment of one's hopes or expectations." While I've never enjoyed the spotlight during recognition of accomplishments, even birthdays, I learned pretty recently how greatly disappointed I feel when my…
When you’re young it’s okay to make mistake Just be brave to get it back up And learn from it Be brave to dream And do what it is that you wanted to do What’s most matter (especially shown in Asian male context) Is your ability and the knowledge you leveraged against others It’s a game of either you know or don’t…
Every single human society that has ever existed, past or present, has had to contend with the question of how to control the generative impulse. Variously identified as the will to power, yetzer hara (יצר הרע), or "toxic masculinity," it is almost always referred to in terms that are more male than female, and…
Sometimes you come across a pair that is clearly very close to each other. Observing them interact, it's unclear who is taking care of whom. The daughter still seeks to impress and seek validation, while showing her mother how things are done. The mother still instructs, but also follows instructions, probably…
What percentage of your time is spent consuming and what percentage is spent practicing being the person you aspire to be? When you are growing into adulthood, it is natural that you are a big consumer of information on the worlds around you. And of all the options you have of dealing with that world. However,…
I am going to tell her. I feel the emotions flowing all over without the conversation happening yet. But this is the time. And this is the time because yesterday reminded me of why I need to do this: I don't want to feel proud of much I can drink, or think it's awesome that over people drink a lot, or that normalizing…
There's few things I like more than a late night. There's few things I enjoy more than time with friends. There's few things I want more than to be someone. There's few things I need more than to stay healthy. There's few things I feel more than a need for money. There's few things I miss more than an adventure.…
Many times I have thoughts that is quite unnecessary? In the end of the day it doesn’t matter When it comes to story telling Details are king Though some unimportant filler words “I heard this story from another guy, he said” “Then he said, when he was sitting on the chair, he was trembling” I don’t think the story is…
In the early phases of industrialization, machines increased output but also set the pace of work. Productivity rose, yet control and benefits stayed with those who owned the system. Workers adapted. The structure did not. I see a similar pattern unfolding in a quieter form. In my own work, the use of AI is not…
Sabe, eu odeio as obrigações.
Can we all just agree to spell the word "thru?" Imagine the environmental impact of saving all those electrons and ink not having to write "through." Probably won't happen, tho.
The paradox of life is, It gives, the lightness of joy and the burden of pain; and takes,so we may learn the worth of what was given. Every gift of joy or burden of sorrow, arrives with the promise of its leaving. And though we may celebrate or grieve its passing, It was never meant to be kept....only experienced. Time…
There are moments that we don't really feel proud of, moments or decisions that come as an reaction to something, for example, responding in a certain way, with a certain tone of voice, but it just comes out of us. These moments as well as many other might it be good or bad experiences and reactions are still part of…
It's the first week back at my job after a two week vacation. I had a nice Monday: no meetings, just checking email, code reviews. Then, on Tuesday, the onslaught begins. Meetings, meetings, Slack, distractions, multiple threads, dropping balls all over the place. Feeling dumb. Here we go again. I got some feedback…
attempts to break outside of a creative block i have revisited some content from mentors who i admire. it is their quotes that resonate with me. the one sticking out now is; "It’s easier to be a critic than to produce work. So the only way to get to the end means is to start the domino effect. Which is essentially put…
I think a lot about gratitude. Writing daily gratitude is a habit that changed my life. So it follows that I write about writing gratitude. Sharing your gratitude is a way to promote a positive outlook on life. I’m not talking about saying, “Thank you.” That’s a polite behavior we are taught in childhood. You need to…
I was wondering about how long it takes to get the results of a blood culture and the fact that they don’t yield great results in most cases, which led me to think about flow cytometry and how it might be able to detect bacteria faster than waiting for bacteria to grow in a blood culture. Turns out other people have…
Micro habits are important for creators. They build muscle memory to ship things faster. In my opinion, two foundation habits are - writing and reading. Atomic writing is a forcing function to reduce fluff. A path to clear thinking. But more importantly, It's a small bet that reduces inhibition in sharing. It gets you…
Why are we so willing to change things like our cars or kitchens, yet so reluctant to change our deeply held beliefs or opinions?
furthermore, i think city folk and even suburbanites should go back to the countryside (because that's where everyone is from, originally; and before that, the wilderness) and start farming again i'm preaching the opposite of that movie "interstellar" where they make farming a dirty ignoble thing and make high-tech…
So many excuses to not create. I need to take a leap of faith. Pounce onto the challenge with hunger. To act with conviction, not just ponder.
I have a love and hate relationship with fud. In general, I think it's necessary, especially in a space where 95% of the projects are going to 0. It's good to have some skepticism, but sometimes it's just too much. I've been a cool cat supporter since September. Mainly discovered it through Andrew Wang and a few of my…
I think about meaning a lot. Maybe it’s because meaning wasn’t up for debate when I was younger. There was a book that laid it all out. No questions to ask. Just faith. But I question if there ever was real faith in me. I think there was fear and shame. There was desire to belong. And there was longing for meaning.…
You can tell a lot about someone by the contents of their fridge. My fridge was mostly empty, some condiments and take out on a shelf and some stale vegetables at the bottom. I won't bore you with bullshit excuses about why I wasn't looking after myself. The worse part was the social dimension. Eating is as much a…
As writers, we long to express (our) thoughts and be heard. In today's climate, we castrate authenticity from artists willing to push (against) the global consensus. Luckily, those daring enough, regardless of the consequences — barge through any boundaries that are societally placed within (our) psyches. I adore the…
