Hobbies/Interests and Shiny Rocks
Most of us have hobbies or interests that are a part of, or define who we are. Some make a career out of it, going in deep and letting their curiosity lead them wherever it goes. Others just like being able to relax, doing what they enjoy.
But there are some who are interested in a multitude of things, so many objects of interest that they find it difficult to find time for them out of their daily routines. Think of it as a toddler who picks up a shiny rock, gazes at it with endless fascination, drops it, and then goes on and picks up a different colored one, and so on and so forth.
While it's nice to subject numerous objects to our fascination which, admittedly, some have an endless supply of. What's the point of it all? At the end of the day are those really hobbies? Or just temporary flashes of wonder that die out as quickly as they popped up into existence, never to be reveled in again?
Does it matter?
If you count yourself among those that just live in the moment, taking everything in stride, then the toddler fits here. But some like me never truly let go of what they enjoy or used to enjoy. Granted, some of those interests can change with age, but a good number of them never go away. It's like the same toddler but instead of dropping the shiny rock for another one, they collect them, dropping some of them after some years for shinier ones.
Our interests are a part of who we are, and that changes with time, which makes it perfectly understandable why we enjoy certain things only for a while and others almost forever. After all, it's what makes us unique.
