Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
ahhh quickly sketching out ideas makes me think of how 'real' that idea can become. if the sketch is too perfect to begin with, then that idea is generally not special enough. it is the ideas which start out murky that have the most potential, because they tend to be in a realm where they do not exist yet.
my transitional coworker, a coworker who took over my piano teaching job for me and who, during this transition, became my friend, is a musician more precisely stated, his main thing, as he sees it, is the music he makes, and this piano teaching gig, as he sees it, is just a side hustle -- it's the root that nourishes…
every one i see talks about how essential freedom is. how it's what our soul craves. truth is, freedom has a price. hell, everything has a price. we're born when a mother pays the price of pain. to have something, we must give something. i have never felt so free and yet bounded. you cannot leave who you are at home.…
For years, I spent my Saturday morning grocery shopping for the week. My workweek routine drove my weekend routine. Now I’m retired. I’m very routine-driven. I would need to prepare my list early. This required a change in thinking. I saw an advantage. If my granddaughter came to spend the night, grocery shopping…
As far as I know there are two types of hotels in New York. There are the ones I go to now, using an app that shows me good deals for luxe stays based on daily vacancies. These places are modern, well-appointed, display vintage claptrap in the lobby, and feel like Wes Anderson movie sets. The bar has some kid with a…
The anti-hustle people will tell you that if you're procrastinating on something, it doesn't mean you're a lazy good-for-nothing loser. It means your subconscious is sending you an important message. At the time of writing, I've just spent 5 hours pointedly not doing the real-life paid work that has been stressing me…
When I was a child I had what you would call a active imagination, I spent a lot of time alone, and this is how I would fill that loneliness. By creating scenarios and artificial worlds in my mind. I would invent friends and imagine myself in times long ago, or far in the future. Throughout my school years, I was not…
Guy who wears suit Or try to impress everyone everyday at uni Thinking of life What did they turn out to be? Did they follow the system or they started something else for themselves as well? Do I actually want to just show my face to work? Ideas are forged - not created. Work on it and start day by day - and you…
Getting home from work and being in a kitchen all day it makes you realize how much more you want that dream to work. Cooking it’s cool it’s fun and creative but to be doing all day? Not that cool. . . Need to hyper focus more on the dream/goal
The uncertainty of life gives birth to its need for purpose.
I'm writing this while waiting at the entrance of Tata Memorial Hospital, Bombay. I'm here to accompany my uncle for his cancer treatment. This Nicheless post has no purpose. It's just a stream of consciousness from the perspective of a person in an unfamiliar situation. Hospitals are a sobering place to spend time…
Autonomy and decision-making as an adult really does seem like a simple concept that I should have in my pocket by now. Somehow still, this practice has continued to elude me. Until now… It’s so strange and exciting to finally accept that I can move forward in such a decision as lifelong marriage commitment. And…
Why do I sit / do emotional work / do energy work / go on retreats / look inside? What is my mission? Where am I going? What am I looking for? The real answer is: I don’t know. I told someone recently that the reason was that I never really liked myself, and the work has gotten me (mostly) past that. That’s basically…
I was reading a post by one of the Nicheless users about how he became a Corporate Lawyer by fluke. This reminded me how life doesn't make sense if we look forward. But it makes sense when we look backward and connect all the dots. I started curating and writing a newsletter in October 2020. I didn't have any plans…
I’m sad for what I won’t experience. I can imagine walking out the front door, leaving the shade of the porch and feeling the powerful sun immerse me in its warm, like i’m getting into a hot tub without the wet feeling. Maybe all these things i will miss are things i already miss from the idealized summers in south…
Covid came and Covid went (well, not really). There was isolation for a long time. Then there was not, as long as you wore masks in private spaces. Shortly after I started going out, I began having these recurrent dreams. I would dream that I entered someplace (the bus, the shopping, whatever) and suddenly notice that…
realistic fiction for adults that are uplifting & humorous & exciting: does this exist?
Today, as I strolled down the familiar streets of HSR Layout, the sound of a man riding his mopet caught my attention. He was shouting "Paper," "Bottles," and other familiar calls. Instantly, a wave of nostalgia washed over me, and a smile spread across my face. It took me back to the long, lazy summer holidays of my…
It was a productive Monday. My apple pencil came and so did the cat food. Went to h-mart to get stuff and ate more leftover curry. Started thinking of ways to improve my workflow on the new iPad. Had a recording itch and tried using garageband. Sleeping late.
More need to realize the age we as a species will soon enter. While the old system titters at the brink, the dawn of a new way of life will follow quickly and make the suffering of this age die like a bad habit. Let me explain (and this is the perfect platform to do this). Every technology we’ve built has iterated…
2/n 1/n is published - finally - but it wasn't simple. I mean the actions were, but the actions didn't lead to a published post. Eventually I logged out and logged in again ... and voila! (Yes I changed the URL of my site - I wonder if that affected things?)
Cara, a trilha sonora…
all’s too loud, I need silence it’s whining like sirens a buzz so strong, a hum so intense it suffocates every thought in my head indecision of a mind split in two all sense disperses tunnel vision pulling through
You can freshen up a habit to make it feel new. Each habit has small variables to manipulate. Small changes can spark new interest or enhance the experience. Take journaling, for example. After journaling for a year, I wanted to add something. I wasn’t in danger of giving up journaling. I didn’t see the harm in…
True. To be attractive & meaningful & charismatic Put other people first. Always. Not pleasuring them though
My boat stands still Soaking in the calm sea; A moment to ponder. -khyati I remember the late morning when I clicked this picture at a jetty near my home. It was about 11 am on a weekday. But the thick cloud cover made it seem like a late evening. Very few people have the privilege to loiter around on a weekday…
My life has been rough lately. I am stressed, sleep-deprived, and unable to function well. This year is my second attempt at applying to grad school programs, and the journey has been anything but easy. I have to keep retaking the GRE, write multiple essays (even just for one school!), and conduct original…
- tao lin - ocean vuong - sheila heti - jordan castro but ocean vuong is kind of the king of this because he talks with this level of clarity IRL
We just escaped from the loud club. We had just celebrated your birthday there but it wasn’t your environment. Apparently you once lived a party life, but I hadn’t seen that side of yours, you had put all that behind you. Our drunk friends took an auto. We decided to walk it. I was sober enough, I am fucked up on the…
exercise & study (like a language) can improve energy levels. No more “I’m tired” mentality. Say “this is hard mode” and this can affect Remove toxicity around you
As my father and mother waved goodbye to me from a train that moved away from me, I felt like a man whose blanket was taken away on a cold night. As I step into my early 30s, the feeling of missing somebody whom you're used to being around is getting stronger. The mind yearns to be back in places that are familiar. I…
no yeah i definitely think of myself as an artist. &i like how matty healy talks about his music as "art" and not as "music" like most musicians do matty healy is attractive to me in a special way, like i like his...personality
Encouragement is something everyone needs, but not everyone has, and it’s a crucial part of our development. For me, encouragement is like a gentle push or a small gust of wind that propels a boat. It provides direction and a bit of force, but ultimately, it’s up to the boat to decide how to use this wind to sail.…
Sean Strickland has shocked the world. Last night he became the new UFC Middleweight Champion of the World by beating Israel Adesanya in Sydney, Australia. Both fighters are quite the characters with totally different fighting styles. Strickland stuck to his guns and damn near ended the fight in the first round with a…
Ahhhh observe the noise; some tell stories, others reveal secrets. observe the colours; some convey intent, others reveal emotions. when combined you a character emerges, who are they...
Do we chase happiness or Do we just chase comfort? Do we enjoy Novelty or Do we just accept self created change? Do we want praise or Do we just want to be accepted by all?
Writing a weekly newsletter is challenging and energizing. But two? That's a different animal. As i continue this 100-day project -- writing content, art, formatting, frequency, whether or not to offer paid subscriptions and etc -- it suddenly occurs to me i still have to write content for my weekly,…
I am writing bits and pieces of content since 8th class. First they were rewritten stories that I read or heard or my own addition or subtraction from it. Then, when I observed writing poems means you can become popular in school bus, I started writing those. But, even if I wanted to write half decent poems, they…
Every time I need to tweak something on my work mac, I'm irked by the title of the settings pane. What every computer interface has referred to as "settings", Apple chose to rename "preferences". Settings implies a certain relationship between us and our tools. You set the fuel / air mixture of a carburetor for…
After mulling it over for a couple of weeks, I made the change. I gave writers the option of adding a single image at the start of every Nicheless post. I'm not confident that it's the right move, but I'm eager to find out. If you're a writer here, I owe you an explanation. That's what this post is for. Firstly, let…
one of the nicest things about being a hospital for over 5 hours is the kind of people you meet. note that when i say 'meet' i don't mean small talk, making new friends type of meeting - i mean instances where you start recognising another's face and when they smile at you, you smile back. those type of interactions…
I didn't sell enough in the last cycle. I made too many long-term bets on projects that have not (🤞🏻yet🤞🏻) captured attention this cycle. Cardano, Polkadot, Cosmos, Ripple & Polygon, primarily. My thesis was that these are long-term projects/investments, and while most of them are in profit from where I bought, I…
Before we get to answering this question, let's preface that by saying the media always blames social media companies for ruining our focus and attention span and giving us depression and anxiety. I think that's wrong. I believe we're doing it to ourselves because we followed our instincts of the need for dopamine.…
I'd rather be alone on a passing cloud than a lonely man in bustling crowd. We often exist in the complete freedom of a lonely life.
