a voice with 3 distinct influences
my transitional coworker, a coworker who took over my piano teaching job for me and who, during this transition, became my friend, is a musician
more precisely stated, his main thing, as he sees it, is the music he makes, and this piano teaching gig, as he sees it, is just a side hustle -- it's the root that nourishes the tree, in the economic sense.
well he said that he has just THREE musical influences. ODESZA, Fakear and Rüfüs du Sol
Just three.
and his music is gorgeous. To me, he sounds better than MOST of ODESZA, ALL of Rüfüs du Sol, and on par with Fakear
But it sounds exactly like a mix of those three influences
well I sort of feel like Jordan Castro's just got like three influences too maybe: Tao Lin and David McLintock's translation of Thomas Bernhard -- I mean he sounds EXACTLY like a cross between Tao Lin and McLintock's translation of Holzfällen -- and rap culture
I DON'T MEAN TO HATE ON JORDAN CASTRO because "The Novelist" is maybe my favorite novel now, on par with "Schachnovelle" and "Untouchable" and "Of Mice and Men", but I feel weird about HOW MUCH HE SOUNDS LIKE LIN AND McLINTOCK's BERNHARD
but most people sound like most people. it's not upsetting when people speak with that generic voice
it's just jarring when you are a mix of two such DISTINCT voices like Tao Lin and McLintock's translation of Bernhard
it's almost like being a cross between Michael Jackson and Queen whereas most people are like a cross between Cathy Yandell and Nina Sankovitch [just average voices that could be anyone]
