Goodbyes
As my father and mother waved goodbye to me from a train that moved away from me, I felt like a man whose blanket was taken away on a cold night. As I step into my early 30s, the feeling of missing somebody whom you're used to being around is getting stronger. The mind yearns to be back in places that are familiar. I am starting to miss all the fights, conflicts of lifestyles and a bucketful of disappointments that come with being closer to them. There is a sense of relatability to what they are going through. Being married made me closer to my mother and an understanding of what she would've gone through raising me. To be with somebody so different to her and yet balancing her personal, familial and a host of other needs. The enormity of turning up for work despite all the disappointments and fatigue every single day for the past 30 years is suddenly ever so clear. Dragging one's body and mind which refuses to do acts of selflessness deserves all the respect and love.
As the bustle of the train pass me, a part of me wanted to go back to the child I once was. To be sleeping on my mother's lap, to be in awe of my father's adventures of the past and to be careless and follow two humans who I know will only do the best for me no matter what. My sight turns blurry as tears fill in my eyes and an unknown voice in my heart calls out my name,"Gammmuuuuuu".
