Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
Lots of ideas are running around my head - I've always wanted to write more. Writer's block? Self-doubt? Over-editing? Perfection being the enemy of the good? I don't really have a good excuse why I haven't. I love everything that Louis builds and when I saw his latest project, I thought this would be a good way to…
Message to myself 2 years ago: There are different ways of looking at the world than the way that you look at the world. This fact feels obvious to you, but the part that doesn’t is: it’s really easy to dismiss those other ways as less real, relevant, meaningful, realistic. The aversion you have to looking at the…
How can we know how many people are currently here with us? The artifacts we leave to the world will almost certainly pierce someone's heart at some point in time. Who can know when and how? And who can know how strongly? The other day, I remembered a location in my home town of Boulder, Colorado on the back side of…
i love patti smith's writing but i've never really like, gotten into the musician side of her and because "just kids" focuses so much on that, i got curious and so i'm watching a 1977 interview+concert of her and i'm shocked that she (1) has a new york accent (2) sounds so damn confident and opinionated in person…
A good quote seen today: “You can’t go back and change the past But you can start today and change the ending” You’re kind, But just not daring and brave enough You could be more achievable If you’re more daring to think through Not stuck into some thoughts by thinking: I don’t think you can
It's the fourth quarter of 2023, and I chose to replenish my 6-month undated Roterunner planner - https://roterunner.com/products/purpose-planner - partly out of convenience, partly out of utility. Meanwhile, here's a list of planners which folks have shared -…
We must spend and manage these well in order to achieve our best experience of life. Time is the toughest as once we spend it we cannot get it back, so we must cautious in how we spend it. This is a difficult thing to do though, as we human beings love love. We love being loved and we love showing love, and one of the…
Here’s the continuation of the previous post: === anon2080 Another sneak-peek of my conversation with Dr. Caleb Takagi Gutiérrez. - “I’m sure you’re aware of the local artists criticizing your initiatives as ‘appropriating their work’. Do you have any message for them?” CTG: “First of all, I take these criticisms very…
I believe in the power of swiping. I believe it is a song continually singing left or flipping right, delighting in the minor and major of it all and the fall of the green and the birth of the ice and the magnificent way we all stop to think twice about our lives, our dreams, our reams of baroque reasoning our ways…
i hate how much i loved your laugh. i hate how lonely all of this growth feels. i hate that you never celebrated my hard work. i hate that i tried. i hate that i loved your car. i hate that i loved every bit of that part of you that made me hate myself. i hate that i stayed. i hate that i waited while your mouth…
For a change, I'm not fishing for a topic in the river of my thoughts. I was thinking about the idea of feeling heard today. In fact, I got thinking about it when I first interned as a journalist. I spent most days in those two months running from pillar to post, attending press meetings, gathering 'newsbites' from…
I'm not saying I have OCD and ADHD, but it takes me an hour to walk from my bedroom to my kitchen.
Earlier this week, a friend shared the official first song of his son, released in mainstream media. Very deep lyrics for an 18 year old to sing, about grief, death, the transient nature of our lives, before moving to the main theme of gratitude. Listening to it, immediately brought an inner smile to my being. I…
Last week, I embarked on my first unplanned trip in over 8 years. I hopped on a bus, packed lightly and arrived in Kamlapur at 5 AM without a room booked. So I walked away in the opposite direction of the request bombs being dropped on me by persistent auto-drivers. I wanted to search a cheap homestay but fear of few…
The Idea or the Thing, which one you value more or look at it the opposite way which will you regret more? missing the idea: I never think of falling in love with you Or miss the thing: I think I have fallen in love with you Now I wonder what it would be like If we had fallen in love together
Schumpeter's theory about how capitalist economies tend to continually renew themselves through creative destruction is kind of like how forest biomes are supposed to work when they are not being mucked up by humans. Emergent systems like forests and markets have a lot of commonalities in this regard. They are not…
I have earned the guts to say this out loud the hard way. I don't HAVE TO do anything. I feel like doing NOTHING and that's what I'll do. I do the things I want to do and feel like doing. There's no shits left to give for anyone or anything else. Only a very calm space inside me where there's an absence of all kinds…
there are some scenarios that people think of as "adventures" but that are NOT in fact adventures!!!! if you know how it's going to end, it's NOT an adventure!! like skydiving. not an adventure. true adventure is responding spontaneously to life's calls and not knowing where you'll end up i have a sense of adventure…
I’m a big advocate of making the most out of the cards you’re dealt. Take what you have in the moment and start fixing things. Slowly but surely, and within a reasonable timeframe, you’ll get what you want — or at least you’ll be 2X or 10X better than when you first started. Even if don't get what you want, or get…
One of my summer experiments as a child included learning to bake and assemble an ice cream cake. Bombay's summer heat, even in the 1980s was oppressive enough, that I was always experimenting with ''cooling'' recipes! My maternal Uncle, Bunny Mama, as we fondly called him, would indulge me with my kitchen…
Historically, overly-extractive business models eventually face pressure from the public, shareholders, and regulators. Once-unstoppable cigarette companies have been forced to pay the public health costs of their products and fund billion-dollar anti-smoking marketing campaigns. The market conditions for renewable…
Philosophers have been saying this for centuries. But never before was it more vital than today. You can't not know yourself because there are companies striving to know you more than you do.
At times not doing anything even though you have a lot on your plate and too much in your mind going on is actually relaxing. I have been in that phase for the last three days and i feel lighter a lot. Too many thoughts passed through the mind and they did not bother me much. Often we are told don't take life too…
Sometimes when I look at something that I have written, I can't believe I thought of these words. These words, they just come to me. I have to put pen on paper and give it form. I feel like a messenger at times. The universe or some cosmic force whispering to me. Sometimes these words don't feel like mine. I never…
I get up every day to strive to be a better me and to grow daily. I get up to work hard and gain financial freedom and to be able to build a family and support them with no questions asked. I get up everyday because the love and support I get from being in such a lovely and healthy relationship. I get up everyday…
I don't hate my job, but I don't love it. I've been running away all these years, jumping from one job to another and then hating myself. All because I don't have the courage nor the discipline to chase my dreams. Chasing your dreams isn't a luxury, it's hard work and requires a lot of determination. I am ready to…
Most people don’t know what to do or what is in their future. It’s not easy & that’s meant to be. To do something difficult & to study - that’s a good way of life. You’re kinda okay with the hardness and the toughness of construction industry now. You can literally do anything else! Fail more. And fail quick. Any…
How do my daily actions respond this question? What I have done this week: - Worked until late the past weeks. - Spent 2 hours thinking what did we miss? What questions to we need to ask. With these actions I am getting better at: - Managing a project that I will never get credit for - At getting a "good job" "good…
To be synthetic is to recognize redundant patterns in information. Familiarity arises when these patterns align with what we already know, while differences emerge when they don’t. Synthesis is about compressing this new information into a rule or simplified understanding, a process that is inherently personal. What…
Very happy with the typo pun in the heading. Been trying to onboard close friends to the first social protocol and also been tinkering with figma make to have a mini app by next month. I've been trying to pitch the premise and thesis to people. Some jump in to product feedback mode without even trying the app and some…
I recently came home after completing college and shutting down a startup, this has given me a lot of time to reflect about the past and think about the future. A friend suggested me to let my mind wander, so i've been watching, reading and doing random stuff (as long as I enjoyed them). One of the things I recently…
Empathy. Extremely important in the care industry. “You know you’re not being empathetic enough if the person in front of you ain’t crying” - I have always heard. As part of my day job, I am not supposed to be anyone’s therapist, but I end up needing to demonstrate empathy. When I was younger, I stuck to canned…
One of my favorite ways of expressing and receiving love is through creating assemblages—sharing a playlist of carefully chosen songs, an are.na board that appeals to a person’s specific interests, a collection of seemingly arbitrary objects that tell a story about a relationship’s history… Through this exchange, a…
The notion of an 'efficient' market is one that you would have probably come across often. What exactly does that mean? In most theoretical models of the modern market-economy, resources (money, goods, etc.) are deployed by their owners towards their most productive uses. Any under-utlilisation of resources creates an…
Today I spent almost the entire day just doing excel analysis. It is tiring and tedious, but I love it. It makes me feel so satisfied when I finally put data into a form that makes sense to me, no matter how menial the task might be. I spent 1.5 hours by myself today post dinner just listening to music and doing excel…
Where is home? Where does one belong? This may be a simple question to answer for those who have lived in the same place all their lives. But what about those of us who have hopped, skipped and jumped to new places looking for new adventures? Where is home for those who have chosen to wander? For some, home is what…
As a child born in the 70s, along with other Gen X's, we all grew up without social media. In 1984, I remember watching the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games which was being telecast from Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs. Swamy, our lovely neighbours on the 2nd floor had invited all the children in the apartment complex…
Coming back from a week of traveling, being in nature, and pretty much not working at all, I am realizing how much I love working - understanding new concepts, creating something new, deeply engaging with a problem and thinking it through. Sitting in the train on the way back, already working on a few things and…
From Write of Passage, Peek-a-Boo and Pocket Pool - https://www.shirleyfrivera.com/blog/peek-a-boo-and-pocket-pool - the following are edited excerpts "... where what you saw was not quite the complete reality of what it was." COFFEE BREAK ... awarded an unprecedented salary increase. Cornered by a Principal in a…
ironic isn't it? the things we run from loom near like shadows, inescapable contorted and twisted into new forms sometimes even be mistaken for something new entirely no use in trying to run - instead delaying the inevitable power drawn from denial of its existence a brief respite, just enough to get by what's the…
(literally 100 whole metric tons consisting only of $100 bills) i would: - buy forests/jungles/islands (as well as politicians) and declare these areas "protected national parks" - buy land that's currently being used for cultivating palm oil and mining lithium/etc. and reforest them, reintroduce native plants and…
The other day I saw a video about working out what we need in order to be happy. It's not that we don't want stuff, it's just that it takes a long time to figure out if what we want is accurate or authentic. Most of us just end up wanting what others around us want. We can spend a lifetime fulfilling other people's…
Earlier, I wrote about guilt related to consuming content on the internet. I got rid of that feeling by watching shows which I need not binge. Food shows seemed just right. Food is so central to all our lives and intertwined with the history, culture, and sociology of a people that it can't be dull. While growing up,…
Imagine if a team could share ownership of a company's social media presence without being told what to do and without a huge amount of process or formality getting in the way. The way I see it, a company exists to help people solve a problem. They already have a group of the most qualified people to solve that…
I am writing this blog post to commemorate what it meant to me to be publicly appreciated for my work. It made me feel absolutely awesome. It made me want to cry. It made me feel so grateful for being where I am in life at the moment. Thank you, Rachit, because I now know the impact of appreciation. It can lift you up…
A: But why? B: Because you need to sell your art to survive. A: But why? B: ...because one must survive. A: But why? B: ...I mean...well...because death is painfool? A: But why? B: If you mean "why were we designed to feel pain," I don't know, I suppose it depends on which type of belief you subscribe to. A: But why?…
