Seeing that Frees
Message to myself 2 years ago: There are different ways of looking at the world than the way that you look at the world. This fact feels obvious to you, but the part that doesn’t is: it’s really easy to dismiss those other ways as less real, relevant, meaningful, realistic. The aversion you have to looking at the world in other ways is the thing that’s trapping you.
See, your instincts for what’s real / useful can be honed, but never will be if you don’t let go a little. You gotta introduce some slack into your world view. You’re in a local optima, and getting out needs some randomness, some play.
But, there’s a problem: Your own evaluator of what makes a useful world view is also captured by your current world view.
And I can’t honestly tell you that your current evaluator will view a new world view as better.
All I can tell you is that you will have more freedom.
