patti smith 1977

i love patti smith's writing but i've never really like, gotten into the musician side of her and because "just kids" focuses so much on that, i got curious and so i'm watching a 1977 interview+concert of her and i'm shocked that she
(1) has a new york accent
(2) sounds so damn confident and opinionated in person

because in her writing she is reticent and soft and dreamy and not at all defensive

in writing she comes across like a hopelessly romantic, devoted sidekick
in person she comes across like a charismatic leader with big philosophical ideas and artistic vision

maybe her writing is who she really is
and how she talks is a product of the way she looks and the expectations one has for a person who looks that way

i really like the way she looks
