The 0.01%
Tina was telling me how in high school, her teacher asked her "what are you the 0.01% at?"
Although she didn't know it at the time, she spent her whole summer thinking about it and realized that not many people she knew were able to read through 2 books in a day, synthesize it and add original thoughts on top of it.
And as a result she spent the whole summer just writing. Reminds me of Ye's "Doing 5 beats a day for 3 summers."
Which is why she overindexed her career so that she can maximize that strength.
To be honest, I was as impressed as I was jealous, because till this day, I still don't know what my 0.01% skill is, or so I say.
Whenever someone asks me "what are you good at?" I usually don't know what to answer.
But sometimes I wonder... is it actually because I don't know or do I know deep down what my skill is and I'm just afraid of admitting it?
One reason is that I'm afraid to box myself. Maybe I don't want to admit my skill so that I can do "whatever I want" and I wouldn't need to think of something to do that will maximize my strength.
Another reason is because maybe this 0.01% skill I have "sucks." Imagine being in a super hero universe and you realize the only thing you can do is shoot water balloons.
It's stupid, but I've always seen myself as someone who has a lot of potential and it would suck if I had to face a reality where I'm not as cool as I thought.
But I know the best thing to do is to just face that reality instead and deal with it head on.
