ARM Next-gen Cortex-X "Blackhawk" or X5
As I wrote in my last part of Cortex X4 [1], We finally have some news on X5. Quote:
which forms part of (ARM CEO) Rene Haas's strategy to "eliminate the performance gap between ARM-designed processors and custom ARM implementations."
Moorhead's inside information has "Blackhawk" demonstrating the "largest year-over-year IPC performance increase in 5 years" citing undisclosed Geekbench 6 results.
The Real Life Score of GB6, running slightly slower than Reference design. The iPhone A17 is at 2900 running at 3.8Ghz.
Considering X4 had 15% increase in IPC, ( Real world measurement of 11% on GB6) I would expect the largest YoY IPC improvement to be ~20%, or real world improvement of 15%. Which would put it at GB6 score around ~2600 running 3.3Ghz. On a Clock per Clock basis, it would actually be ahead of A17. But it will be competing against Apple A18.
This is super exciting. And again the biggest middle finger to those who keep saying ARM cant catch up to Apple.
