Cortex X4 - Final ( I hope )
So we have the official figure from Qualcomm, which likely has slightly better thermals for reference design and some other tricks. But the numbers fits within 5% range of what was tested on Xiaomi 14.
The Snapdragon Gen 3 at TSMC 4nm, using Cortex X4 running at 3.3Ghz. On an IPC / PPC basis, Cortex X4 is now finally ~10% of Apple A17 Pro.
And i looked back at my Cortex X4 prediction [1], the 10% gap is exactly where it landed.
Which is basically the biggest middle finger to practically speaking 99.9999999% of the internet inclusive but not limited to those on Twitter / X, HN and Reddit. Continue to claim Apple is 3 - 5 years ahead of the industry.
Now the more interesting part isn't the Snapdragon Gen 3, it is
Qualcomm's take on Oryon, are they repeating the same mistake as they did in Server. Where the ARM's design caught up with their own team. And at a much cheaper cost.
MediaTek, making the same SoC with Cortex X4 at a lower price. Although most would still prefer Qualcomm just because of the modem.
What will we get with Cortex X5? Normally we would have news by the time the previous generation ( X4 ) ship. But ARM seems to be late with this one.
