True Colours
One big turn-off about nfts is the amount of focus people have on making money.
Now, I'm not going to say that I don't care about money (I do), but money has never been the priority for me (although I will never not be happy making profit). It's almost always community, making connections and learning that have been drivers for me. Not just in NFTs but pretty much my whole adulthood.
However, one good thing about people's focus about money in this space is that people show their true colours very very quickly. But what's even better is that because it's on the blockchain, people that try to prioritize money above all and in the process try to scam or hurt others will be discovered one day or another — and in the end ruin their reputation in the process.
The best example I can think of is what happened to Beutrec and the whole Starcatchers/Boki saga. It obviously sucks for both teams that this happened, but at the very least, it was discovered relatively quickly and dealt with right away.
Money shows people's true colours and although there are tons of downsides (ex: Starcatchers and Boki need to play catchup now to gain back their community's trust), it's also a lot easier to see people for who they really are.
