No lands in the Azukiverse
This was a crazy week for Azuki holders. On March 30th, the Azuki team airdropped not just 1, but 2 "Somethings" to each wallet for every Azuki in that wallet. Meaning holding 1 azuki = 2 somethings, and 20 = 40 somethings.
A lot of speculation has started on what exactly is in this box that we were airdropped, but the most recurring answers were either pets/companions or land.
To be honest, I'd be disappointed with either of these as I feel that both are very played out because we would just be repeating what BAYC has done with their dogs and their recently announced metaverse plans.
If Azuki wants to eventually be bigger than BAYC, I believe they need to do something out of the box that hasn't been done before.
But I do want to expand specifically on why I don't think land is in the plans.
The first thing I'll say is this: Building a land is the equivalent of building a city. It's already really freaking hard to just build a brand, but imagine also needing to build an infrastructure for people to hang out and buy and sell stuff?
I'm a firm believer that projects should concentrate on what they do best and in this case, Azuki's strength is building a community and building a brand.
Zagabond even gave some hints of what Azuki is trying to accomplish when he was comparing Azuki vs Supreme: "Supreme is not capturing any upside from their secondary sales volume and that Azuki is building a new web3 brand translating crypto culture into a lifestyle brand."
So to me lifestyle brand doesn't translate to land. Azuki is not trying to build a universe in web3. Azuki is building a universe leveraging web3.
