Channeling Ye
For the past two weeks, I've been binging this podcast called Dissect, where the host analyzes Ye's MBDTF, one of Kanye's most acclaimed album that he's ever produced/created as well as listening to the album and I've been mad inspired.
It's just crazy how much detail he put into the album and I've been wondering... how can I channel all of that into the work that I do?
And I'm not talking about just creativity here, because you can definitely channel creativity. But what's the equivalent of incorporating different singers into your songs to tell a different perspective of your character/story? What's the equivalent of creating a 9 min song and the last 3 min is just no lyrics and your voice is changed into a muffled guitar instead? How can you translate the abstract into your writing?
I think the key here is metaphors, right? The best way to abstract your writing is through imagery, and invoking the senses and to me that means writing using more metaphors.
I also believe that writing with more nuance also helps to tell the story. In songs, nothing is black and white and a lot if left to interpretation, so invoking gray areas could also be a good way to do that.
