Tale of 2 jobs
There are 2 kinds of jobs.
The first is where one needs to do something. This usually requires one to be physically present and trade in time and energy for whatever needs to be done. If one doesn't do something, the job is not done. This kind of job is mostly synonymous to low skill and blue collared work like a construction worker, a retail store assistant or even a bus driver. It can also be a high skill profession like a doctor or a pilot. One good feature for this kind of a job is that you cannot take your work home and it's easy to "switch off". However it's less "flexible" and one needs to show up to do do the work.
The second is where one is responsible for something. They need to do things but there's an indirect connection between the effort they put in what they are responsible for. They are paid for "results" and not for "showing up". Think of managers - all kind, ranging from products managers in tech to account managers in sales. Even marketers and developers could fall into this category. One can use leverage in this kind of job and hence multiply their effort leading to large earnings. However, the flip side is that ones responsibility doesn't stop at the end of the workday or when on vacation. With today's technology, disconnecting is very hard.
Both jobs have their benefits and challenges and I believe it's important to identify what job you're doing and have the right expectations.
I also feel, from time to time, it might be beneficial to switch the kind of job one does. This might add novelty and a different experience when ones feels they need a change.
