EPYC with Zen 5
We know Zen 5 will be another ground up design. And I hope we get another 15% IPC increase minimum. Considering how far ahead ARM's design and Apple's A17 design. I dont think 15%+ is a tall order. Along with new node we are looking at 20%+ Pref / Watt and 128 Core design on EPYC.
Hopefully this means x86 is somewhat competitive with ARM. And we could buy bare mental machine rather than ARM which still lacks an open ecosystem comparatively speaking.
We can now have 1U with 2 Node, each Node with 128 Core or 256 vCPU. 512 vCPU per U, along with 128GB DIMM DDR5 on the market. SSD being a lot faster and cheaper. Software also getting faster and cheaper with years of improvements from JIT and SQL DB clustering being easier to manage.
A lot of the so called web scalability problems in the old days is now gone.
