Elon finally buys Twitter
I was thinking whether or not I should write this post. The reason I didn't want to is simply because my opinion on this does not matter at all. The reason I did want to write this is that it can throw some light on my thought process which applies to other things in life.
I'd say I'm quite pro-Elon. Simply because the guy has done things which are tremendously hard, not once, but many times. He's done this despite naysayers, which are plenty even today when each of this companies are multi-billion dollars in size.
Twitter is probably the only social media platform I use. The last bastion for social media in the world with an addictive Tik Tok, a FOMO-creating Instagram, a cringe LinkedIn (wtf is a LinkedIn creator) and an irrelevant Facebook. I've not been a victim of the bots, but enough people complain and I've seen it in action during smear campaigns - pretty disgusting. Removing Trump too was a big moment and there's no going back. It's a reminder of what centralized systems can do. You don't own your accounts, you're simply renting it. But unlike your house, you don't get an eviction notice. One fine day, you're out.
Given how Elon behaves on Twitter, does he deserve to be a public company CEO? Does he not already have too much on his plate with SpaceX and Tesla?
These are fair question for a normal person. Given Elon's past, I don't think these questions apply to him. Despite his shortcomings, which everyone has, he's done way more than the average Joe and he doesn't seem to be stopping.
There's a decent chance that he doesn't fix Twitter, but it's a bet I'm willing to place.
But as I said earlier, what I think doesn't really matter.
