Distracted
I have been sitting here on my couch for about 45 minutes attempting to write something. I obviously got started (as you are reading this now), but I'm curious about what took me so long.
I'm very distracted. So many more things were interesting to me than writing ~300 words on this blank page. Here's everything that distracted me over the last 45 minutes:
my dog's cute face as she sleeps about 6ft. away from me
getting pinged on Slack
Morning Brew's newsletter that I honestly never fully read (sorry Brew crew!)
my wife watching YouTube videos in the next room.
Instagram (always)
TikTok (I can't help it)
starting to write about one thing and then telling myself, "no, that's really dumb to write about."
trying to 'build an app' on bubble.io (i really have no idea what i'm doing there)
checking my bank account
stressing about our savings
working through my finance spreadsheet
going on Amazon to see what business book I should read next so i can convince myself i'm 'starting'
gmail. my greatest enemy and my loveliest friend.
the lower back pain i'm starting to feel now that i'm 31
I value writing. But, judging by all the things I did above before writing, it might be hard to tell. Every time I sit down to write/type, I start to get a sense of clarity. Things slow down in my mind. It's hard to think and write at the same time. Because the only thing that matters is the next letter, the next word, capturing the very thought I am having at this exact moment.
Maybe I should start keeping track of the things that catch my attention (for better or worse).
