A great bath
A great bath feels like a tonic.
Two baths in a day, and I bet you will complain about life a little less.
Have you also noticed how your mind suddenly calms down near a water body? Listening to the ripples of river water or the rhythmic crashing of sea waves brings a sense of tranquility to our ever-racing minds.
I understand there will be different preferences for this based on the region you grew up in and how hot or cold it was.
But at some level, taking a bath does feel like renewal.
It is quite interesting that there's a shared understanding of how reflective a bath makes us. We all relate to those memes about the smart replies to an argument or the life choice evaluations occurring in a shower.
I feel it has something to do with the nature of the activity. More often than not, you will be alone while taking a shower.
Momentarily, it gives you a taste of solitude. A big part of our day gets spent being around people, and on the worst days, water rescues us.
One of the quirks in people that I don't quite understand is disliking a shower. I usually feel dysfunctional if I skip it.
It is just one of those activities that won't tire me. I could easily skip eating for an entire day but not a bath.
Anytime I think of rituals, a bath is the first example that comes to mind.
You know how rituals usually make no sense, but we blindly follow them? I think a bath helps me understand rituals better.
A commonly accepted, routine activity that simplifies life by some measure is how I define a ritual.
Are you also religious about some daily life activity? What does it offer you?
