Switching up the morning routine.
I have decided that it's time to switch up morning routine. Thanks in no small part to binging Huberman Labs podcasts during the Jamaica trip.
Currently, I am a night owl. In bed by 1am. I wake up at 8:30a on "mama-duty" days and 7:30a on "daddy-duty" days.Starting tomorrow, I will wake up at 7:00AM every morning. Even weekends!
I am removing the phone from the bedroom. I did this in 2020-2022 when I used my flip phone. This past year I started sleeping with it in my room what a distraction. Now it's relegated to the kitchen.
At 7:00AM I will hit the Peloton; a 20, or 45, minute ride on daddy and mommy duty days, respectively. Exercise getß the blood pumping to the brain, priming it.
Sounds like the next thing is to do my prayers, breath work, and meditation so that I can hone the mined in on focusing.
After the ride I will have two thirty minute learning blocks: Spanish and Piano. These blocks + driving the kids get us to 9:00AM.
After 9:00AM I will start my one-hour business/tech learning cycle (either studying ad tech, reading our internal documents, or learning about software architecture). Half way through this last learning window, at approximately 9:30AM, I will:
- drink my first cup of coffee (2.5 hours after waking)
- take 1 600mg Alpha GPC
- take a 5 minute freezing shower
I will need to fit prayer and meditation, approximately thirty minutes, into this morning routine. For the most part I think this looks right on target:
- start with blood flow to the brain
- prayer and meditation
- two hours of study
- lock it in caffeine, chlorine, and coldness.
I currently also have my mouth taped shut. Might as well become a nose breather while we are at it.
