Snap, the most low-weight way to stay connected
Way back in college ('17) snap used to be this place for closed circles to have their musings and people to be unfiltered with select people.
One thing I always hated is the UX which feels like iOS on steroids. It sure works smooth but I found the learning curve steep and myself old. I've had a on and off relationship with snap and I'm not a very photo photo person. Ngl I'd love to take more photos now.
I got back on snap after a 2 year break post pandemic because 2-3 of my folks used it. There was something simple and easy about it. In most messaging apps the conversations are about something and has an intent. Different conversations hold degrees of weight. There's resistance to reach out to a friend you've not spoken to in a while but with whom you'd have loved to stay in touch.
One inevitable thing is your friends move on to pursue what they want in life just like the way you want to. It's only natural to do so I think. I've learnt to process this better and I hope you do to.
Now, coming back to snap and what the neat trick is, snap is lite by design. A snap is inconsequential, irrelevant and sometimes just idiotic but it's sweet that someone decided to share their moment with you and you chose to share yours with them. There's no obligation to reply and get into their moment but you're free to if you want to and vice-versa. There is no implied expectation. I think after a point you're just sharing snips of what you're going through in a far away land and still keeping in touch with least effort.
I'mma make a snap account again now. Byeee!
