why is studio ghibli so loved/acclaimed?
i watched "pom poko" and it was the most depressing thing i've ever seen! it took many of the themes that have been cycloning in my mind and made a shit sandwich of hopelessness.
it sucked me in and strapped me in a Morale Free Fall
it hypnotized me with its magical realism and silliness, and, once it got me in a state of drooling trance, told me to give up on my ideas of happiness.
what is the consequence of watching a movie like that? it just makes people think it's ok to further burden the environment, since it seems fated and destined anyway.
ah and is that why there is a ghibli "theme park", which is really a misnomer, whose correct name should be "gift shop" because it is a big store of merch with unnecessary packaging? despite nearly every ghibli film having a theme of "environmentalism", the corporation seems to be the very villain it portrays.
and people still talk about studio ghibli like it's high art
more and more, i don't get this world
(it seems that merely talking about the shittiness of the world makes one a martyr. just TALKING about it. just KNOWING that something is wrong is enough nowadays! but that makes everyone a martyr because everyone knows. how can we not when everyone is telling everyone?)
well i'm not going to praise studio ghibli like everyone else does but i am curious about their film "only yesterday". this better be a feel-good.
speaking of feel-goods, i have discovered the power of standup comedy last night. does comedy get better when the world becomes more ridiculous? it's like the comedians have so much material to work with now...i don't remember ever laughing this hard at standup.
