When time stands still.....
Waiting rooms at hospitals and Doctors clinics are possibly a place where a clock or contraption that measures time, don't have much use. A minute on a clock vis a vis a minute from when the Doctor reads your report on her / his screen and shares the results with you, seem much longer than a minute.
While the clock tells us it is 60 seconds, the brain manages to silence every other part of the body and bring our full focus and attention to the body language of the Doctor. A minute at that time, stretches till eternity. And depending on the news one is waiting to hear (or not hear), the minute feels longer.
There are so many other examples of when time stands still. Waiting for an exam result. Admission to a school or college of choice. All the first milestones like a wedding or birth of a child. The last breaths of a loved one. These are just a few known examples of when time does indeed stand still.
Treatises have been written about the correlation between the mind and body that extrapolate how the mind is able to disconnect from time. While a relative mystery for a layperson like me who functions like a mere mortal on this planet, the fleeting moments that I have experienced where time has stood still have left a deep impression on my psyche.
My natural inclination is to delve further into the topic, with the ultimate quest of finding out why does time indeed stand still? However, as we all know, I reach a natural dead end and come to accept that time does stand still. In those chose precious few moments of life, where all our attention is focused on just one thing and one thing alone.
