Wanting isn’t craving
When you sit and stop listening to your cravings, stop giving in to your aversions, stop following the “should”s, just sit, eventually you realize: wanting isn’t craving. they’re not even similar.
A common response to “What if you just did whatever you want all the time?” is “Oh, I’d just get fat and play video games.” Ok? Is that what you actually want to do? it must not be or it wouldn’t be objectionable to you.
I wonder if there’s something to phrasing it as “Acting in the way you want to act.” Which means the same thing but somehow feels different.
Anyway, there’s a somatic sense that’s different than “should”, different than craving, different than running away, different than all these other things that compel us.
Funnily enough, the “want” almost doesn’t even feel like me. It’s almost coming from outside “me”. I’m hoping I can learn to stay attuned to it.
