The last thing that made me emotional
This was a facebook update on my childhood friend's father's passing. We are not actively in touch (only facebook), I saw the update, through the testimonial message he posted for his father. I had the urge to check how old uncle was and see his recent photos, perhaps to give me a sense of what it means to live close to death. My memory of uncle is of him being kind and pleasing person, never taking any tension. He would engage in free conversations with us, and also remember how much my friend loved his dad and mom, and how anything he said was gospel and what a role model he was for my friend.
I have become a emotional as I have grown older, letting myself feel the pain felt by others, mulling over and thinking how alone he could be feeling. Such news always seem to resurface feelings of the existential question on what life itself means, if the inevitable is a clear. What is purpose of running towards something, where should our energies be Now. My thoughts always go back to what a limited life we live and therefore hedonism makes no sense and how important it is to be always be vigilant towards health, relationships and constantly seeking knowledge. The other critical thing is managing your ego, and preparing for and accepting the definite fate, this not in a negative connotation, but always endearing to make things net positive. I think it also means, seek more experiences which gives more perspective like new hobby, new holiday, new job, and never be too much worried about where you will end up.
I keep thinking how we already have all the answers on life, on pain, yet we ignore them and to seek distractions to forget them.
