The Irony of Arrival
Dreams of fortunes, inside towers tall,
Deaf ears drown inner calls.
Fancy house, a high-rise view,
For fleeting praise i chose to pursue.
My youth traded for suits and ties,
Seeking my worth in some other's eyes.
Dawn to dusk in office halls,
Sleepless nights inside mansion walls
Through sleepless nights and silent meals,
Numb to how my heart feels.
For the Count of worth growing in sums,
Deafened by silence as evening comes.
And every now and then i flee,
To a mountain breeze or salty sea,
To breathe again, to feel, to pause
Yet return to another day of worthless cause
Older now, with pace grown slow,
I seek the life i used to know.
A cottage small, a winding stream
A mind at peace behind the dream.
For all we earned and all we gave,
For riches, no wisdom for all the toil and save
The final truth we come to see
The life we chased was never free.
Trading our time for dollars and dimes
My mind my prison yet don't see the crime
We journey far, we strive, we roam
In the end, we’re heading home.
