schizotypy subscale part ii: cognitive disorganization
I scored 11 out of 11 here. This has been, I suppose, the greatest source of psychic pain. It’s hard to cope, when you’re constantly reminded that the way your mind works is a mess.
There are benefits to this psychic disorganization, it just takes some time and understanding to accept the benefits. I’ve accused myself of ADHD, being a nervous wreck, anxiety issues, etc. But that’s just how the outside world tends to view it. I tend to be good at pattern matching, sort of intuitively understanding systems, storing lots of disparate details. So, a lot of real world things come easily for me. Too many people have painted me as a genius golden child with unlimited potential because of my cognitive disorganization.
Coping with this has led me to a lot of habits that have helped me understand and accept myself over the last few years. (And helped me understand that it isn’t just “bad thoughts” and “negative choices” that caused me to struggle at times. If these things can help me, a lot of this is a physical issue on some level:
- Eat better. Eat organic fruits and vegetables for awhile. Grass fed, pasture raised meats. At least until you learn to recognize quality food. Learn to cook so you can reduce processed foods.
- Drugs and alcohol need to be out or severely limited.
- Exercise regularly. Even if it’s just a short walk or some yoga.
- Meditate or pray or something. Sit in silence for 20-30 minutes a day. It will help.
- All of this is to help you sleep 8 hours a day.
Better habits have helped me so much! It helped me come to some understanding of myself, helped with depression, and best, my imagination is still wild!
