Project Management
Project management is common sense. There, I said it. Thanks for reading.
The default path requires us to be certified in this or that, otherwise, how could we possibly know what to do? I’ll tell you how - use your common sense!
Project management is not a skills based exercise. There are set outcomes expected that result in the successful delivery of a project. So you already know what you have to do at the outset. The “how” is up to the PM to manage.
PMBOK. Prince2. Agile. Lean. These methodologies are essentially telling you the same thing. To be a good PM, one that gets results, you need to exercise common sense. That’s the take away.
Learning how to build reports, registers and charts helps keep stakeholders notified of progress. But these alone don’t get you to the finish line. Certs only get you so far.
The best PMs are those that manage to collate and distill the information on hand and execute with common sense. Unfortunately, common sense in projects is not as common as we would all like to think.
