Prayers and "Miss Me Most"
"Meditate, meditate, meditate in remembrance of Him and find peace". "When you feel you are without me, listen close, I whisper louder, when you miss me most."
The first sentence is from Sukhmani Sahib and the other sentence is from a poem by Donna Ashworth ''Miss Me Most''. Put together, for me, they capture the very essence of the beautiful Golden Temple.
My sister and I made a short trip to the Golden Temple a few years ago. It was October, the weather was pleasant and we both relived memories of different trips that we had taken at different points of our lives and were excited about making this trip together.
We could feel the positivity, uplifting energy and vibrations all over the place. It was like being enveloped in a space that the Almighty had created specially for His devotees to assemble, celebrate, grieve or just be.
Every religion has a version of what to do when grief overcomes the physical body. Sometimes this extends to pop culture and we find versions of it in movies like the Lion King with a beautiful rendition of the Circle of Life.
An understanding of the world beyond what we see and experience on earth becomes so important to appreciate the grandeur of life. Another line from Ashworth's poem "I am the courage in your gut that grows. I am the chamber in your heart that feels like home. Only my body has flown. But me, I dwell still within your bones."
God indeed dwells within us, blesses us at all times and continues to guide us is a profound feeling, which has the ability to make me feel safe and like God's chosen child. Regardless of how the day has been, I go to sleep very peacefully with this knowledge.
