information consumption vs navel-gazing
i think that information consumption is the opposite of navel-gazing; being so afraid of navel-gazing, i went completely the other way, reading books to become aware of others
but i think it's good to look both ways; 50-50? i don't know -- to the degree that it feels most enjoyable, maybe
navel-gazing vs introspection: what's the difference?
i suppose navel-gazing touches only the surface...but sometimes that's as deep as a person can get!
when i did the myspace survey with sebastian on the phone, he was much more ready to answer my questions than say if i were to ask him one of my own questions or a proust questionnaire item
and isn't it nice to get just any conversation going at all?
and i feel, reading people's myspace survey's, that i got to see them a little bit in the 5 sensory way...
i got to see them in their lives (what did you last drink?)
and it was pleasant to imagine lives which claim not to be important but to merely exist
my fear of navel-gazing began, i think, when i realized that most of my sentences start with "i" but...
if one would really read them, one realizes that they are followed by "feel" or "think" and one could easily strike out "i feel" and "i think" and have the sentences stand as they are
but i don't like to state things as final verdicts
i like to be aware that i am merely thinking and feeling something and i can leave opportunity for update or change
i really do think it is atrocious how expensive byung chul han books are
(see? if that sentence would've been "it is atrocious how expensive byung chul han books are" it would sound quite harsh and accusatory)
