Happy
I googled synonyms for happiness because I didn't want to sound cliché but all of them sounded too pretentious. Lol.
This is just a personal take on the feeling that everyone is so bent on finding.
I’d read headlines off of newspapers and magazines that told me stories of people and the lives they lived.
To me at that age, happiness was simply just an expression, a smile or a laugh—easy.
No second thoughts. No hidden feelings. No drama.
To be happy was easy.
To be happy was ‘it’
Then came a little more of life, — and then some more. Life got harder. A little less easy to smile.
Articles, books, podcasts and YouTube videos, had me convinced that happiness was overrated.
I realise now, that it was convincing because it’s always much cooler when someone challenges the mainstream.
Happiness.
It's just something that you can have or something you can't.
Everyone keeps trying ‘so hard’ to find it because Instagram keeps setting the bar so high, ffs.
Everyone else decides for us -- and we let them.
It gets so much easier doesn’t it? — when people start saying what we want to hear so we don't have to work for it. Overrated.
Pfft.
The kind of people we are and strive to be makes a huge part of the feeling.
Happiness is personal. A satisfaction in knowing that I'm good but also can be better, that I can work on it.
Thinking things through and trying to navigate thereon is more than enough sometimes. It's quenching — knowing that you’re making progress, that better days are coming.
It's not as big a deal as we make it out to be.
You either feel it, or you don't. Either one of those is okay.
