Embody your emotions with parts, then let them speak
Pre-reqs you might want to grok this post: An understanding of IFS-style parts, and of how stopping resisting emotions can let them flourish and give you more freedom.

I recently found a new emotional processing technique that has been really helpful. When I’m feeling an intense emotion, I consider that emotion to be held by an IFS-style part. This allows me to let that part speak as loud as it wants, to express itself independently of the whole, and lets me communicate with it, and keeps me from getting caught in the emotion.
A recent example may show the power of this technique:
Someone corrected my behavior, and I was feeling bitter about it. Logically I knew they were right and didn’t mean anything about it, but I still had the bitter emotion. I embodied it in a part, and let it complain / speak out / do whatever it wants internally. Almost immediately, the part shifted from anger at the person, to hurt and concern at how I would be seen. Then with some ideal-parent-figure style work, I was able to give that part the care it was looking for.
Importantly, this was the same part when it was feeling bitter versus when it was feeling hurt.
Previous emotional protocols I’ve seen mostly don’t do this: They treat the emotion as an independent entity. My guess is that giving it a stable identity that persists even if the emotion shifts is important. This means you can allow the emotion to move more freely. It also keeps you from falling into the trap of “Oh, this emotion shifted, so my work is done.”, when in reality it just moved into another form.
Give it a try, lemme know if anyone has success.
