An unintended advantage of books
I've been quick to dismiss most books as too long.
Here's my logic: Books need to be thick enough for customers to feel like they're getting their money's worth at a bookstore. Hence, publishers create incentives that result in books being 10X longer than they should be.
However, I recently discovered an added benefit to reading books that are longer than they should be – they force you to spend more time submerged in a topic.
Blog posts might get the point across in 1/10th the time, but books will let your mind marinate in a topic for 10x the time. And this will help you understand it better.
It might be an unintended benefit, but it is a benefit nonetheless.
