Ants
Crowds are scary when you're in them. I love watching crowds from afar. Trying to track one single person through this swarm is some form of amusement I enjoy. It gives me the same rush as I imagine someone who enjoys doing crosswords would chase.
I used to do this with ants too. When I was a kid and banned from watching television. I had to find other ways to entertain myself. At that point I'd read all the books I had access to in the house. Well, except the school text books and the holy books.
We had (still have) a decently sized backyard. I'm spend hours there in the afternoon, when the family, even the dogs would enjoy an afternoon siesta. I hated napping in the afternoons. Still do.
I'd crouch down and find and ant trail. Follow the trail until I could find the opening of the colony. Pick an ant. And the try to follow him as far as I could.
It was fun.
Now I also picked on them. I liked trying to find the largest ant. Usually they're the soldier ant in the generic-asian-red-ant species thats very common. Apart from the slightly larger body, they had really big heads in a dark shade of red, which gave you a sense that it must be very dense and strong.
I usually picked them by the head. The bites don't hurt really. We're too dense for them to penetrate. And they don't have a stinger. Yes, ants usually sting. They don't bite. Especially the worker ones in this red species. Boy to they hurt.
I have dreams sometimes.
Dreams of being engulfed by a hive of those red bastards.
I never make it, I wake up.
