A 2-Step Journaling Strategy for Maintaining Focus to Increase Productivity
I got off track today.
I intended to concentrate on two items I prioritized. But somewhere along the way, I thought about cooking dinner. Suddenly, I was looking at new recipes. I love to cook.
Tomorrow, I’ll employ a journaling strategy to stay on track before going down rabbit holes. I'll use my journal to obtain the mindset to increase my productivity.
This journaling strategy has two steps anyone can use.
- First, write an affirmation.
The affirmation tells you that focus is possible.
"I can stay present in the moment, focusing on one chosen task at a time."
- Second, write a statement of intent.
This statement details the priority task(s) for the day.
"Today will be a great day when I complete my newsletter draft and edit my template."
My two journal sentences create the mindset I need to accomplish my priorities first.
This strategy helps me remember my plans for the day's work. With affirmation and intent set for the day, if I need a break, I choose a quick reset. I know I will have time later for whatever shiny objects appear.
This can be the only journaling you do to increase productivity.
Staying focused and getting the job done ensures you'll have some extra time to go down any rabbit hole you choose.
Tomorrow, I might cook the vegetarian gumbo I read about.
