2 Strategies for Experimenting with Journaling Prompts (and Finding Prompts that Fit Your Needs)
The blank page is daunting to even seasoned journalers.
Using journaling prompts in the early stages of building a journaling habit solves the blank-page dilemma.
There are two strategies for finding journaling prompts.
1.)Buy a journal with prompts
Amazon lists 10,000+, ranging from one different question-a-day (yes, 365 different questions) to a page-a-day with the same prompts each day.
I have tried both. I have a question-a-day 5-year journal. In addition, my original format was from a journal I heard described on a podcast. I copied the three questions in my blank journal for four months before trying anything new.
2.)Write your favorite prompts in your blank journal.
Find prompts in other journals, online, or by talking to other journalers.
Come up with your own. This can be as easy as, "Did I have a good day?" or "My plan for the day is..."
Either of these methods is a great way to start a journaling habit. Exploring your options. My tips on prompts:
Try the same prompts for two weeks. If they don't resonate or you get bored, try others.
Don’t be afraid to abandon a journal with prompts if it’s not working. Get a blank journal and use what is working.
Take the necessary steps to make your journaling fit your needs.
