warming up
In everything I do, I've noticed a universal truth: I need time to warm up. Whether I'm writing my thesis, exercising, or editing a video, the initial phase is crucial to reach a state of flow.
This warm up phase is critical, and it highlights why minimizing distractions and avoiding frequent context switches is important. These interruptions can reset the warm up process, prolonging the time it takes for me to reach peak performance.
But often, the biggest hurdle is simply getting started.
However, I can use this 'warm up phenomenon' to my advantage. For instance, when I don't feel like exercising, I trick my brain by committing to just a two-minute workout. The low barrier makes it easy to start, and once I begin, the warm up process kicks in and I find myself happily extending to a full 30-minute workout session.
The key is to just get started and let the momentum build from there.
