The Unintended Consequence of Chasing Your Dreams
It is vitally important that you understand this one thing. If you want to achieve your dreams, you must stop chasing them.
Here’s why.
In nature, things that are chased run.
Think about it. What would your instincts tell you to do if someone started running toward you?
Run. Be it from them or with them. It’s in our blood and our bones.
Go to a dog park and start running. A good portion of the dogs would chase you even if they weren’t initially interested in you. There’s just something natural about it.
Dreams may not be people or animals, but they involve things that exist in the natural world.
A great job with an understanding boss. A loving partner. A fun friend.
Humans suffer from hubris and fancy themselves above nature, but everything we do is a part of it. Everything that we do is it. We are nature.
Even if your dream is to be the best at x or to fix world problem y, it will always involve other people. And if it doesn’t include others, it includes you. You are natural.
A chase is full of frenetic energy. You can only chase or be chased for a short time before your body screams for rest. And even when a chase is more of a hunt, wild energy quickly turns to obsession and destructive behaviors.
Give up the pursuit. You’re unintentionally pushing all your dreams away.

P.S. In my next post, I’ll share an alternative approach.
