The One Right Way To Read
This is hard to admit, but I've been struggling with reading long form content. Today, I opened an article, and half way through, I put my phone down cos I just couldn't take it. I forced myself to go back and read the rest of it. It's worrying me that my attention is not mine anymore, and there's a bunch of reading I absolutely need to do.
So here's what I did - I put the articles on focus mode on Firefox and used the 'listen' feature to have the text read out to me. It was strange at first, but it freed me up to do other things with my hands, like tidying my room. Guess what, I was able to pay complete attention to the article without breaks. I didn't miss any details. Just had to pop back to the screen when they referred to an image.
Really thinking about how easy it was for me to pay attention while my hands and eyes are occupied by other tasks. This is why I doodled all through school?? And got in trouble for it a lot! It's as if I need to optimally engage all my senses before I can function in a flow state. My boyfriend thinks I have ADHD. It's not improbable.
Here's to discovering more interesting strategies like this one! Sorry the title was a click-bait, just wanted to say that the one right way to read is the way that works for you ¯_(ツ)_/¯
