The Art & the Artist
Hey guys,
Today we'll talk about the legend of Amrita Sher-Gil. In memory of her life and the legacy she left behind. For all the things we read and hear about people of Ms. Sher-gil stature we ourselves have a personal relationship with them that's based on how we consumed them. This is my relationship with the legend-
I gravitate towards the arts as I find endless meaning in them. The first time I read and looked at Amrita's art was a few years ago when I barely thought about art. Amrita changed that.
Amrita's paintings are a bold statement (literally & metaphorically).
I learnt to embrace the truth from her paintings. Amrita's word depicts the truth no matter how hard it is to digest or how much the society tries to hide it. Amrita changed the dialogue on how women are represented through her paintings.
Amrita's personal style was bold, unapologetic, and carried an essence of a rebellious attitude from being unhinged of what people thought of her. She portrayed rural men and women in the harsh realities of their everyday lives, but her subjects always maintained the dignity of their position in the world as people.
Art is an escape from reality; also a mirror for the truth. Amrita's paintings are a testament to both.
